Something in the Night: Bruce Springsteen

I'm riding down Kingsley,
figuring I'll get a drink
Turn the radio up loud,
so I don't have to think,
I take her to the floor,
looking for a moment when the world seems right,
And I tear into the guts,
of something in the night.

You're born with nothing,
and better off that way,
Soon as you've got something they send
someone to try and take it away,
You can ride this road 'till dawn,
without another human being in sight,
Just kids wasted on
something in the night.

Nothing is forgotten or forgiven,
when it's your last time around,
I got stuff running 'round my head
That I just can't live down.

When we found the things we loved,
They were crushed and dying in the dirt.
We tried to pick up the pieces,
And get away without getting hurt,
But they caught us at the state line,
And burned our cars in one last fight,
And left us running burned and blind,
Chasing something in the night.
"I use my gun whenever kindness fails"

I never thought that I would find myself
In bed amongst the stones
The columns are all men
Begging to crush me
No shapes sail on the dark deep lakes
And no flags wave me home

In the caves
All cats are grey
In the caves
The textures coat my skin
In the death cell
A single note
Rings on and on and on...

And the darkness calms my mind
I see the ravens fly, born of time, demon eye

So the rain becomes again
A master sorrows friends, a better end my sorcerer friend

And the rains are coming closer
Darker days are drawing near

Return of ravens

And the world I know subsides
I see the darkest eyes, the mastermind behind the tide

So let the ravens come to me
Come and set me free, summon me, let me be

And the winds are coming colder
Darker days are drawing near

Return of ravens

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Damn Sorus, I love your taste in music!

Who is that?

That is Return of Ravens by Lake of Tears, which is at the top of my list of awesome bands that no one has ever heard of. :D They're from Sweden, and never really caught on over here, which I have never been able to understand. They kinda defy genre, covering everything from doom metal to psychedelia, but their best stuff (in my opinion) is kinda 'fantasy metal', The Neonai, Forever Autumn, and Crimson Cosmos being their best albums. I think you would like them!

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

CXS - Cassandra

Watching backwards as life like pictures
Stinging thoughts, born with phantoms
We danced above a world forgotten
Moments cherished... even now
A train-wrecked heart loves fairy tales
Singing from a gaping wound
However time has left unsettled
My memories play out of tune

You can't unmake
a cold mistake
You can't undo
the hearts you break
You can't erase
the poet's fate
Not even if you try

And she had Audrey Hepburn's smile
With deeper sadder eyes
The only thing she said
No one hears Cassandra cry
Because the earth is standing still
And the truth becomes a lie
A choice profound is bittersweet
No one hears Cassandra cry

A heartfelt sorrow I believe
Offered this for passion's crime
A crippled satellite trapped in orbit
My memories play out of time

You can't unmake
a cold mistake
You can't undo
the hearts you break
You can't erase
the poet's fate
Not even if you try...

The listless price of my descension
Where emptiness has pulled me down
Cascading from my divagation
Below the frozen winter skies
Pythonic sadness unreleased
As serpents rigid in cold
Waiting for the warmth of Sunday
Before the cruelty of growing old

Are you listening?
Are you listening?
Are you listening now?
Like Orpheus with hope entangled
Your path was mapped about your feet
Leading backwards into forgiveness
Or forward to a fools retreat

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Reckless Kelly: Vancouver

When the sun went down
You were sitting under someone else’s sunset
And I wasn’t around
And you were wishing that I was a guy that you'd just met

And I was probably stumbling down some back street alley in Amsterdam
While you were making excuses and breaking another heart
Or maybe I was drinking wine with the pigeons in a square in Venice
And I was wondering what you’re doing
And wondering where you are

When the stars came out
I was sitting in a studio on Sunset
And the lights were down
And I was wishing the time we had wasn’t over yet

And you were probably sitting in the airport waiting on a plane to Vegas
While I was packing a suitcase staring at a waiting car
Or maybe you were heading out to some house party on Lake Austin
And I was wondering what you’re doing
And wondering where you are

When my luck ran out
I was sitting on a concrete block in Little Rock
We didn’t scream or shout
We just said good-bye
And I waited for the click
And the lights went out

And now I’m packing it up and I’m rollin' on out to Vancouver
For some wasted youth and a fresh set of lonely stars
And I’m wondering baby, if you ever saw the best of us
And I’m wondering what you’re doing
And wondering where you are

I still wonder what you’re doing
And wonder where you are
"I use my gun whenever kindness fails"

Roll into your town and I’m walking around
Got some extra time think I’ll throw some money down
And you follow me around
and you’re asking for the time
Your asking what I found
think I’m gonna rob you blind

maybe it’s the tattoo on my arm
that I drew while I was bored waiting tables in new york
a heart and two flowers intertwined with a vine
I can see your point, I can see your point

And up here I am who I am
And if you don’t like it then fuck you, man
I’m not a thief and a whore
Please don’t follow me around next time I’m shopping in your store

And up here I’m making you aware
That if you don’t like me well I don’t care
I’ll be exactly who I am and if you got a problem with it
Well that’s your problem, man

After I’ve paid count the money that you made
Then you go to the show like to be entertained
And I get up on the stage
Trained monkey in a cage
And it’s just another day just another day

And I can see you from my place on the stage
Third row center aisle
Hot blond with you
All smiles
And you got another woman but that’s in another town
And you can’t wait til this is over
Gonna lay that honey down

And up here I am who I am
And if you don’t like it then fuck you, man
I’m not a thief and a whore
Please don’t follow me around next time I’m shopping in your store

And up here I’m making you aware
That if you don’t like me well I don’t care
I’ll be exactly who I am and if you got a problem with it
Well that’s your problem, man

And your good values taught you how to behave
Who to treat kindly and who to enslave
And like all good men you still fall to the floor
When a great big rack
And a ripe round ass
Walk through that door…

And up here I am who I am
And if you don’t like it then fuck you, man
I’m not a thief and a whore
Please don’t follow me around next time I’m shopping in your store

And up here I’m making you aware
That if you don’t like me well I don’t care
I’ll be exactly who I am and if you got a problem with it
Well that’s your problem, man

America - Horse With No Name

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la...

After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la...

After nine days I let the horse run free
'Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
there was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with it's life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la...

Gentle On My Mind
johnny hartford

It's knowing that your door is always open and your path is free to walk,
That makes me tend to leave my sleeping bag rolled up and stashed behind your couch.
And it's knowing I'm not shackled by forgotten words and bonds and the ink stains that have dried upon some line,
That keeps you in the back roads by the rivers of memory, that keeps you ever gentle on my mind.

It's not clinging to the rocks and ivy planted on their columns now that bind me,
Or something that somebody said because they thought we fit together walkin'.
It's just knowing that the world will not be cursing or forgiving when I walk along some railroad track and find
That you're moving on the back roads by the rivers of my memory and for hours you're just gentle on my mind.

Though the wheat fields and the clothes lines and the junkyards and the highways come between us,
And some other woman's crying to her mother 'cause she turned and I was gone.
I still might run in silence, tears of joy might stain my face and summer sun might burn me till I'm blind,
But not to where I cannot see you walkin' on the back roads, by the rivers flowing gentle on my mind.

I dip my cup of soup back from the gurglin', crackling cauldron in some train yard;
My beard a roughn'ning coal pile and a dirty hat pulled low across my face;
Through cupped hands 'round a tin can, I pretend I hold you to my breast and find,
That you're wavin' from the back roads by the rivers of my memory ever smilin', ever gentle on my mind.
you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

THE WALLFLOWERS
"Letters From The Wasteland"

Now coming down
Out of this swandive to your arms
I make no sounds
WhenI move through your reservoirs
I wake up quick
I wake up sick
As you abandon me
Into these fields of rank and file
Thru this cloud I hear you breathing
Thru these bars I watch them bring more in

Now I send back letters from the wasteland home
While I slowdance to this romance on my own
May take two to tango, but boy it takes one to let go
It just takes one to let go.

Now boy keep still
Don't spread yourself around
Get back in line
Eat your bread
And just work the ground

'Cause you're not through
They're not done with with you
Did you think you were
The only one who's been let down
So sleep tight little boys of the new dam
Let them drop in the quicksand

Now I send back letters from the wasteland home
While I slowdance to this romance on my own
May take two to tango, but boy it takes one to let go

Now another bad idea gets thru
Down they send me unto you
Every bridge I should have burned
Every lesson i've unlearned
When the smoke give way to ruins
Incarcerated lovesick fools
I wait for you to cut me loose
But until then

Now I send back letters from the wasteland home
While I slowdance to this romance on my own
May take two to tango, but boy it takes one to let go
Now I send back letters from the wasteland home
From where I slowdance to this romance on my own
"I use my gun whenever kindness fails"

I SAW THE MORNING
IT WAS SHATTERED BY A GUN
HEARD A SCREAM, SAW HIM FALL, NO ONE CRIED
I SAW A MOTHER
SHE WAS PRAYING FOR HER SON
BRING HIM BACK, LET HIM LIVE, DON'T LET HIM DIE

BRIDGE:
DO YOU EVER ASK YOURSELF
IS THERE A HEAVEN IN THE SKY
WHY CAN'T WE GET IT RIGHT

CHORUS:
'CAUSE WE ALL LIVE UNDER THE SAME SUN
WE ALL WALK UNDER THE SAME MOON
THEY WHY, WHY CAN'T WE LIVE AS ONE

I SAW THE EVENING
FADING SHADOWS ONE BY ONE
WE WATCH THE LAMB, LAY DOWN TO THE SACRIFICE
I SAW THE CHILDREN
THE CHILDREN OF THE SUN
HOW THEY KEPT, HOW THEY BLED, HOW THEY DIED

BRIDGE:
DO YOU EVER ASK YOURSELF
IS THERE A HEAVEN IN THE SKY
WHY CAN'T WE GET IT RIGHT

CHORUS:
'CAUSE WE ALL LIVE UNDER THE SAME SUN
WE ALL WALK UNDER THE SAME MOON
THEY WHY, WHY CAN'T WE LIVE AS ONE

SOMETIMES I THINK I'M GOING MAD
WE'RE LOSING ALL WE HAD AND NO NE SEEMS TO CARE
BUT IN MY HEART IT DOESN'T CHANGE
WE'VE GOT TO REARRANGE AND BRING OUR WORLD SOME LOVE

BRIDGE:
AND DOES IT REALLY MATTER
IF THERE'S A HEAVEN UP ABOVE
WE SURE COULD USE SOME LOVE

CHORUS:
'CAUSE WE ALL LIVE UNDER THE SAME SUN
WE ALL WALK UNDER THE SAME MOON
THEY WHY, WHY CAN'T WE LIVE AS ONE
'CAUSE WE ALL LIVE UNDER THE SAME SUN
WE ALL WALK UNDER THE SAME MOON
THEY WHY, WHY CAN'T WE LIVE AS ONE

Reckless Kelly Desolation Angels Lyrics
I saw the same old streets for far too long
I put the rubber on the road
I left it all behind
And now paid with memories
Those streets are long since gone
Rubber on the road & the blood inside

And I've been around this land of opportunity
The road is hard and it don't offer up immunity
I've rode this country hard, from sea to shining sea
I've shared a dance with Lady Liberty

I broke down despite my prayers
Full tilt and half the way
The rubber on the road & the blood inside
But I ain't got far to go
I'll leave her where she lay
Keep the rubber on the road & the blood inside

Because wealth of matter has never made much sense to me
And It's bought a lot of souls and never has it set one free
I shed a couple tears but never did I grieve
I walked away and left the keys

And I'll catch me the midnight ghost
We'll roll down that Western Coast
Fields of green
Valleys of wine
St. Theresa, don't you worry
We'll make it on time

We're there before we know
Just watch this Grey Ghost go
Steel on the tracks & the hammer down
Things used to move so slow
These days it's roll man roll
Steel on the tracks & the hammer down

And it's bound to take its toll
Out runnin' wild and livin' free
And I've done some growing up
But I never lost the child in me
We're tossin' dice at things
That might not ever be
All just to see what I can see, yea

And I'll ketch me the midnight ghost
We'll roll down that Western Coast
Fields of green
Valleys of wine
St. Theresa, don't you worry
We'll make it on time

Well I know that it can’t last
Someday this ride will stall
Rubber on the road & the blood inside
'Cause even mighty mountains
Someday might crumble & fall
Keep the rubber on the road & the blood inside

Finding out the hard way
Don't leave school with much validity
And living hand to mouth
Don't leave room for much nobility
We know the end is near
But not when it will be
Or is it close enough to see, yea

And I'll ketch me the midnight ghost
We'll roll down that Western Coast
Fields of green
Carmel wine
St. Theresa, don't you worry
St. Theresa, don't you worry
St. Theresa, don't you worry
We'll make it on time
"I use my gun whenever kindness fails"

Every step of the way
We walk the line
Your days are numbered
So are mine

Time is piling up
We struggle and we scrape
All boxed in
Nowhere to escape

The city's just a jungle
More games to play
I'm trapped in the heart of it
Trying to get away

I was raised in the country
Been working in the town
I been in trouble since I
Set my suitcase down

I ain't got nothing for you
I had nothing before
Don't even have anything
For myself anymore

Sky's full of fire
And the rain is pouring down
There's nothing you can sell me
So I'll see you around

All my powers of expression
And thoughts so sublime
Could never do you justice
Reason or rhyme
There's only one thing that I did wrong
I stayed in Mississippi a day too long

The devil's in the alley, the mule kickin' in the stall
Say anything you wanna, I've heard it all
I was thinking about the things that you said
I was dreaming I was sleeping in your bed

Walking through the leaves, falling from the trees
Feel like a stranger nobody sees
So many things we never will undo
I know you're sorry, well I'm sorry too

Some people will offer you their hand and some won't
Last night I knew you, tonight I don't
I need something strong to distract my mind
I'm gonna look at you 'til my eyes go blind

Well I got here, following the southern star
I crossed that river just to be where you are
There's only one thing that I did wrong
I stayed in Mississippi a day too long

Well my ship's been split to splinters; it's sinking fast
I'm drowning in the poison, got no future, got no past
But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free
I've got nothing but affection for those who've sailed with me

Everybody's moving if they ain't already there
Everybody's got to move somewhere
Well stick with me baby anyhow
Things should start to get interesting right about now

My clothes are wet, tight on my skin
Not as tight as the corner that I painted myself in
I know that fortune is waiting to be kind
So give me your hand and say you'll be mine

The emptiness is endless, cold as clay
You can always come back, but you can't come back all the way
Well there's only one thing that I did wrong
I stayed in Mississippi a day too long
Yeah the only thing that I did wrong
Was stayed in Mississippi a day too long
The only thing that I did wrong
Was stayed in Mississippi a day too long

Gerry Rafferty: The Ark

See the dark night has come down on us

The world is livin' in its dream

But now we know that we can wake up from this sleep

And set out on the journey

Find a ship to take us on the way.

The time has come to trust that guiding light

And leavin' all the rest behind

We'll take the road that leads down to the waterside

And set out on the journey

Find a ship to take us on the way.

And we'll sail out on the water

Yes we'll feel the sea grow

Yes we'll meet out on the water

Where are all strangers are known.

If you travel blindly, if you fall

The truth is there to set you free

And when your heart can see just one thing in this life

We'll set out on the journey

Find a ship to take us on the way.

And we'll sail out on the water

Yes we'll feel the sea grow

Yes we'll meet out on the water

Where are all strangers are known.

See the dark night has come down on us

The world is livin' in its dream

But now we know that we can wake up from this sleep

And set out on the journey

Find a ship to take us on the way.

And we'll sail out on the water

Yes we'll feel the sea grow

Yes we'll meet out on the water

Where are all strangers are known.

Now when this is over, over and through
And all them changes have come and passed
I want to meet you in the big sky country
Just want to prove mama, love can last

Like hallelujah in the big sky country
Just like forever and ever is wide
Be getting over in the big sky country
Be kissing time, we'll be kissing time goodbye

God knows it's all been done
Let me tell you why

'Cause you held my number, you held my name
You held my body through the thick and thin
On a bed of roses in the big sky country
Spread out to love you, love you in your second skin

Like hallelujah in the big sky country
Just like forever and ever is wide
Be getting over in the big sky country
We'll be kissing time, kissing time goodbye

Hallelujah mama, razzle dazzle mama
Probably got lights on all over the place
Hallelujah, I mean glory hallelujah
If I could only come 'round once and see your face

So just watch them lovers out on parade
Watch them lovers while they slip and slide
They gonna prove it to the big sky country
Just gonna prove it while the whole world collides

Like hallelujah in the big sky country
Just like forever and ever is wide
Be getting over in the big sky country
Be kissing time, we'll be kissing time goodbye

have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

i've had this with actors before, on the set,
where they get upset about the [size of my]
trailer, and i'm always like...take my trailer,
cause... i'm from Kentucky
and that's not what we brag about.

When I was a young boy
They said you're only gettin' older
But how was I to know then
That they'd be cryin' on my shoulder
Put your money in a big house
Get yourself a pretty wife
She'll collect your life insurance
When she comes at you with a knife

Somebody get the doctor
I'm feelin' pretty poor
Somebody get the stretcher
Before I hit the floor

Somebody save me
I lost my job, they kicked me out of my tree
Somebody save me
Save me

Everybody's got opinions
But nobody's got the answers
And that shit you ate for breakfast
Well it'll only give you cancer
We're runnin' in a circle
Runnin' to the morning light
And if ya ain't quite workable
It's been one hell of a night

Somebody get the doctor
I think I'm gonna crash
Never paid the bill
Because I ain't got the cash

Somebody save me
I lost my job, they kicked me out of my tree
Somebody save me
Save me
Look out

Queen: You're my Best Friend

Ooo. you make me live
whatever this world can give to me
It's you, you're all I see
Ooo, you make me live now honey
Ooo, you make me live
You're the best friend
that I ever had
I've been with you such a long time
You're my sunshine
And I want you to know
That my feelings are true
I really love you
You're my best friend
Ooo, you make me live
I've been wandering round
But I still come back to you
In rain or shine
You've stood by me girl
I'm happy, happy at home
You're my best friend.
You're the first one
When things turn out bad
You know I'll never be lonely
You're my only one
And I love
The things that you do
You're my best friend
Ooo, you make me live.
I'm happy, happy at home
You're my best friend
You're my best friend
Ooo, you make me live
You, you're my best friend.

"My Interpretation"

You talk about life, you talk about death,
And everything in between,
Like it's nothing, and the words are easy.

You talk about me, and you talk about you,
And everything I do,
Like it's something, that needs repeating.
I don't need an alibi or for you to realize,
The things we left unsaid,
Are only taking space up in our head.
Make it my fault, win the game
Point the finger, place the blame
It does me up and down,
It doesn't matter now.

'Cause I don't care if I ever talk to you again.
This is not about emotion,
I don't need a reason not to care what you say,
Or what happened in the end.
This is my interpretation,
And it don't, don't make sense.

The first two weeks turn into ten,
I hold my breath and wonder when it'll happen,
Does it really matter?
If half of what you said is true,
And half of what I didn't do could be different,
Would it make it better?
If we forget the things we know.
Would we have somewhere to go?
The only way is down, I can see that now.

'Cause I don't care if I ever talk to you again.
This is not about emotion,
I don't need a reason not to care what you say,
Or what happened in the end.
This is my interpretation,
And it don't, don't make sense.

It's really not such a sacrifice

'Cause I don't care if I ever talk to you again.
This is not about emotion,
I don't need a reason not to care what you say,
Or what happened in the end.
This is my interpretation,
And it don't, don't make sense.

And it don't have to make no sense to you at all,
'Cause this is my interpretation, yeah, yeah, yeah
