As a somewhat new member to the Pantheon, I find your words puzzling, m'L-rd. Could you articulate that statement with some examples, please?Bhakti wrote:It is a valid school of thought. Alas, our followers often turn against us for such attitudes. And these mortals have a way of finding immense Power when they want to get back at us.

One I can think of off hand is when the prophet of Amplarx, (God of...honour? in the old Pantheon)believing that his god should have acted differently, went mad. Took a whole bunch of people with him, declared war on another god, some stuff like that.

Prelude
Argothoth sits on his colossal bone throne.
His long black robe drapes the throne like a blanket.
His skeletal cheekbone lies on his fist, and his skull is slightly tilted.
His mind is filled with thought:
“My entire immortal existence is dedicated to undeath. Mine isn’t simply dedication; I know that undeath is the true essence of existence itself. Deathlessness meant for studies, rituals, for the writing and reading of books; I am always amazed by how mortals may reach conclusions or discover truths that even the gods cannot see or understand.
Spells fascinate me above all things. The power of magic, the ability to use negative energy to bestow eternal life upon a creature.
I am Argothoth, and I always sought to improve my skills, to become ever more powerful. Throughout the countless years of my existence and that of my followers, my studies have led me to discover incredible things…
Now I wonder, what challenge could be worthy of a god? What undertaking could be written in the annals of Eiran? What could astonish the most powerful of necromancers? What could astound a god?
The chamber of bones. My great rituals are always performed there. The greatest among my followers gather to cast complicated spells and create inconceivable things…
What can I undertake? How can I express all that I have learned throughout eternity?
OF COURSE! Why did I not think of it before? It is so obvious!
Power, skill, magical might and my boundless knowledge will succeed where no one ever tried before!”
Argothoth stands, and walks, determined, towards the chamber of bones…

Goddess of the air, mistress of Dragons; per your request I have selected four masters of Destruction to attend the imprinting ceremony. They were selected for their agility, balance, deadliness and absolute loyalty to me. They are young, not yet 23. But their skills are unparalleled. And they are all master horse riders.
The four are Jonx Seth, a young man, slightly built but with an inner strength belied by his 5’ 6” frame; Saoto Zord, a young man, muscular, 6’1”, and roguishly handsome; Micha Tong, a pretty young woman who always wears a snear, at 5’ 3” she is diminutive, but her size hides a howling passion for KILLING – she came to destruction easily; and lastly Vaxxa Sont, a statuesque blond woman, 5’ 11”, with piercing blue eyes and ice in her veins!!
They will be offering themselves for imprinting. They understand they will go into training for three years if selected. I have also ordered that they not KILL or MAIM any of your followers.
*the Maelstrom swirls!* You are commanded: send four of the 150 to the landing place on Immerel ... and bring them safely to the hatching grounds. I will hold you accountable for their safety!

Be sure your candidates understand this.

This new ability is dangerous, and is new to the dragons of Eiran. The fact that it was bestowed upon weyrlings who are not mature, and those who ride the ones that are Impressed are still not fully trained themselves, makes for a situation that must be approached cautiously. An intra-continental jump between for such a short distance as the desert is fraught with deadly possiblities. Do not assume the 150 will always be at your beck and call!!
As the eggs are now hardening on the Hatching Grounds, things at Zandarar are returning to normal. I will be happy to send adult dragons, without the new ability, to transport your candidates. Keep in mind, my dragons can carry up to three full size adult passengers each, including their Rider. I think three adults, two for your candidates and one to transport any luggage, which should be kept to a minimum as the Lower Caverns always have an abundance to go around in Stores, will be plenty.

This was my take on it as well. And I did not want him to think his rudeness and arrogance had gone unnoticed.O-gon-cho wrote:Is it now, m'l-rd? I see it simply as part of his nature to be so imperious...
However,
This certainly gives one reason to reconsider that assumption.O-gon-cho wrote:Any more than that, I will not say.

.......*crickets chirping*.........BAH!! Of course I give commands godling! Who amongst you is my equal!?
Well, I'm waiting. For all your boasting, I would have thought to witness some astounding feat of power or intelligence. I am still waiting for you to prove your superiority.
Seems to me that you just keep on repeating the same thing over and over in hopes that we will believe you instead of laugh at you.
Don't feel bad, Asta. We all had to start at the bottom rung.
O-gon-cho,
I would like to send some candidates for the impressing but since Asta has sent a bunch of murderers, I am not sure that my followers would be safe.
Who is going to answer for their safety?

I can not extend power to either protect or influence the candidates, hatchlings, or Impressions. I have asked the AllFather to try and guarantee the same from other deities. Their FREEDOM and WILL to choose and act as they will must remain intact.
That said, all candidates will be instructed in the norms of weyr society and acceptable conduct. I will admit, knife duels to the death for honor have occured on the rare occasion, and as long as all of the proprieties of honor are met, the victor is seldom punished.
The candidates will be branded as 'special cases,' and such duels will not be looked upon kindly, either with residents of the weyr itself, or among themselves. From what I have seen of AK's followers, such things as FREEDOM and WILL are somewhat foreign concepts to them. I strongly suspect it would take much more than normally acceptable causes to force them to break their Master's command...
That said, I (and I hope the deity of any said candidate who does break the rules, especially before the Hatching) will answer for their safety. What that will involve, should anything happen, I will let the Pantheon itself decide.
As I already stated, after the Hatching, should an Impressed candidate (Rider-in-training) break the rules of the weyr, such candidate will be separated from their beloved, and turned out loose alone into the desert sands to deal with whatever symptoms of madness may occur.
I freely admit such madness may appeal to AK's domain of chaos, and ask him to please refrain from the temptation of influencing such events to happen.
Have I answered your question satisfactorily, m'lady? This is the first time I have attended a Hatching myself (other than my own), and as far as I know, the first time a Hatching has ever been thrown 'open' in the history of Eiran. What might go wrong, very well possibly will go wrong. With no power being allowed to influence the event, I leave it all on the AllFather's hands.
