Went to see this last night, absolutely horrid movie that I forced myself to stay to the end to watch. This is no Sci-Fi flick there is little science in it at all and is more in the genre of sci-fantasy/horror. The main problem is belivability there is no credibility in the premise or the events, the basis is almost lets go to sun at night it'll be cooler then!
To start with there is no explanation why the Sun is going off the boil 5 billion years ahead of schedule and there is no explanation of how any man made substance could withstand the 1 million degree temperatures of the Sun's atmosphere. The main dramatic event which ignites the plot is a member of the crew manually calculating and changing the course of the ship (whilst sitting on a super-computer programmed to do just that) while everyone else is asleep! No checklists, no other crew members to double check no computer over-ride or safety protocols (which are present when the plot needs a boost). There are numerous single points of failure which one would hope would have back-ups and contingencies on the ship that is mankind's last hope!
They rendevouz with another ship and need oxygen but leave without it and without a crewman despite a relatively easy fix. They lose a comms array which gets burned, but why would it be liable to exposure within the normal operation of the ship? The questions go on and on throughout the cringeworthyness of the movie.
The characters are awful and whilst there is some acting, but the things they are asked to portray are laughable to the point of embarrassment. "Last hope of mankind leaving shortly anyone want to go?" The people are weak, unprofessional and basically stupid despite the hope that we would send up our best.....
......................when the time comes, I really hope Bruckheimer can persuade Harry Stamper to go instead.

"Winston, if you were my husband I'd give you poison" ................ "Madam, if you were my wife I would drink it!"

"The opposite of pro-life isn't pro-death. Y'know?"
"What if the Hokey Cokey really is what its all about?"

But other than that, you liked it?
I thought the special effects were amazing. I wasn't too worried about the back story-the sun was dying, we needed to do something and we came up with a plan, was all I really needed to know. And I didn't care whether the sci-fi aspects of the film made too much sense, either. I do agree that the acting was pretty average and the characters were completely annoying and unrealistic. I certainly hope that the future of mankind is never in the hands of so many morons(although some might argue that it already is!).
Overall I thought it was a decent movie but it could have been so much more.

It'd take you a long time to blow up or shoot all the sheep in this country, but one diseased banana...could kill 'em all.
I didn't even know sheep ate bananas.

Jesus! I thought the film was a masterpiece! I know it has some scientific flaws (the acceleration of the bomb with the crew in it), but the film is not meant to be really science-fiction; it's about the sun as a symbol.
