Worst Albums by Great Bands

Post by Damelon »

I heard about this on the radio the other day. The fifteen worst albums by great bands. From Rolling Stone:

I liked this list. There pretty much isn't a good album on there. Pretty interesting.

edit: Oh, and Bob Dylan or the Beatles have to top every Rolling Stone list. :p

Wow.

-"Dirty Work" may suck, but it's got a great single in "One Hit to the Body" with Jimmy Page.

-"Diver Down" is arguably the weakest of the Diamond Dave albums, but "Little Guitars" redeems it.

-"Face Dances" is simply a great album. "You Better You Bet" is the Who's best single.

-"Rock in a Hard Place" generally sucks, but "Lightning Strikes" is my favorite Aerosmith song by far.

-RS can bite me, "Presence" is my favorite Zeppelin album.

Edit-I stand corrected, "The Real Me" is the Who's best single, "YBYB" is their second best.

"Presence" is the one with that incredible version of Achilles Last Stand, right? Wouldn't say it's my favorite album, but that track: 8O

Presence? Presence? Not Zeps best songwriting, nor production, but it is a damn good guitar album.

"Presence" has Achilles Last Stand, Nobody's Fault But Mine, and Tea For One.

Awesome album.

agreed. The Zep 'presence' on that list is the only one I disagree with.

And did you see some jack's comments on the page ... he listed Beatles 'Revolver' as one of the worst (by a great band)!..
WTF?!
That is an amazing album!

Yeah, there's a bunch of bad albums by good bands that should be on there.

-"Power Windows" without a doubt.

-"Ram it Down" by Judas Priest

-"Brigade" by Heart

-"It's Hard" by The Who

-"Fate of Nations" by Robert Plant

-"End of the Century" by The Ramones

"Feedback" is worse than "Power Windows", IMO. I'd also rate "Coda" below "Presence". I'd also say "Eliminator" should win tha all-time biggest sell-out by an otherwise great band.

Hey...I like the Elvis Costello album listed. However, I would have to say his look at the time was the worst. This is when he sported the hairy monster look.

"Feedback" is the cover album, right?

Also, I'd add "Lovesexy" by Prince.

Presence is a really good album. Some great stuff on there, I"m not sure why it seems to get bashed a lot. In Thru the Out Door and Coda are pretty bad though.

Going for the One??!! I love it. How about Open Your Eyes for a bad Yes album? I am Relayer and I should know :-)

And I like Face Dances too.

Open Your Eyes was a pretty decent attempt to bring back the 'feel' of the 70's Yes. However I just thought that "Big Generator" is MUCH worse than any Yes album... yep, I change my "bad" choice.

and "In Through thee Out Door" is my fave Zep album! ... fool in the rain is an amazing song, and all others ... I can even take Hot Dog....

I'm surprised "Night in the Ruts" by Aerosmith didn't make that list; not because it sucked, but because it's my personal favorite of theirs....I love "In through the Out Door" and "Going for the One" too. There are some forgettable Yes albums from the 90's I'd choose over that or "Big Generator"...."Open Your Eyes" would have been my choice, too. That last track.....geez, what the hell's that supposed to be?
