So how do they decide these things? Take a general poll from fifty different shopping malls, ask everyone walking by to name a guitarist, put all the names into a big ass hat and then pick them out and put them on the list in the order they are picked?
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

Gilmour's placement is a sin. The Edge is horribly overrated.
Damn straight on both points.
Eric Johnson should be on there for "ah via musicom" (if only the 1st 4 tracks)
Also for "Cliffs of Dover" and "Manhattan."

I didn't think anyone else knew who Steve Hunter was.

Ronnie Montrose should definitely be on the list. Top 20 easily.

What a load of pure crap.

Any list of great Guitar players worth a damn thin dime or more would include:

1) Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers who has created some of trhe greatest guitar riffs and solos in Rock n' Roll (Breakdown, Running Down a Dream, Boys of Summer... you name it). For Godsakes.

2) Chris Whitley for reasons so obvious that I won't insult those of you with Guitar know-how by mentioning them.

3) Lindsey Buckingham clearly should be on any list before the likes of Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane & Steve Howe of Yes to name a few.

A why O whay is Angus in at 96 when Jerry Garcia is in the top 15? Duane Allman at #2?!

I shall puke.

It is because Jerry and Duane dead. If Angus had killed over on stage while duck walking of a massive heart attack during the Razors Edge tour he would be top 10. Being dead buys you points.

Chris Whitley is dead, too, so apparently it doesn't.

Jeez!! I don't know how I could pick a top 10... but I'll try

Steve Howe
Jerry Garcia
Trey Anastasio
Warren Haynes
Larry Carlton
Jimmy Page
Dave Navarro
Dave Gilmour
Pete Townshend
Edge

(bonus)
Peter Frampton
Peter Buck
Bob Weir

Bill Nelson, since he's on my ipod right now. 10 points to the first person who can name what band he was in, without Googling it :)

These might better be described as the guitarists who most influenced my playing. Ask me again in 10 minutes and you'll get 10 different ones.

Doing a top 100 is kind of silly anyway. That's just too many. There's no way any punk guitarists should be on the list. Johnny Ramone? Even he is laughing at being on the list. The dude knows 3 chords (I may be exagerrating, and I'm not sure which way). Hell, I can't play guitar, but I could learn to play as well as him in 2 weeks. And Ron Asheton from the stooges shouldn't be there, or Cobain, or Greg Ginn, if you ask me. Personally, I don't really care all that much about great guitarists or guitar solos in general, but the list is silly.
Roach trotted over to sniff at the gleaming phlegm, then licked it up.
