Did Elena really want to do "it" or was she just doing what she thought TC wanted?
Kind of a hero/godlike worship "do anything for" kind of thing?
(which is pretty messed up in and of itself)
Did SRD use any words like lust or desire when describing what Elena was feeling?
I don't remember.
I do remember thinking the whole thing was pretty creepy though! 8O
I don't think any of it was told from Elena's POV, so we don't know what she was thinking ("what were you thinking!!??") other than her statement:

"You cannot ravish me. I have chosen you, beloved."

Which is pretty messed up in itself.
Hero worship, partly, but not the "do anything for" the hero kind.

Spoiler
and of course THOOLAH's favorite messed up moment: Linden's appearance! |L 8O

Technically it was horse blood as stated in the end of WGW but then it changed to cow blood in the beginning of RotE. I caught this because I thought it had some significance seeing as how Joan was a breaker of horses, apparently I was wrong about it being significant. 8O

Tru fax. That horseblood thing was creeptastic.

If anything made the Chrons a difficult read for me, it was the sense that the author was just trying to creep me out.

Happily, he also made indelible charaters I simply fell in love with and couldn't forget. Go figure.

That was the feeling I got when Covenant was captured by the people of Hamako's stonedown in TWL. People with extra appendages that looked like mutant fish coming out of their stomachs, and puking up all kinds of weird shit...

I'd better stop there :)

Of the 3 I listd, marid was the largest freak-out. TCs horror was a palpable thing to me.

Messed Up

Post by Turiya »

#1 Coercri. When Hyrim is borne down by his illness and Shetra's death, and says "Three days," a chill always goes up my spine.

#2 The Easter Health Crusade. Probably more honest than most things of that sort, but still, messed up--and who throws a leper out of chuch, I ask you?

#3
Spoiler
Esmer. Anyone with me on this? He almost makes Bannor look like a lucky devil
#4 Linden Avery. THOOLAns unite! Everything about her made my skin crawl--to quote Lester del Rey: "You can't have a Tarzan book with Jane as the main character!"

The other "messed up" moments have already been greatly exposulated upon, so I'll leave them alone.

2. The rape of Lena

3. The Sunbane (have to admit i did like the spin on that one!)

but TCs death got me even though it was obvious,

I haven't been here in a looooong time, folks, but I am currently re-reading the first and second chronicles for the umpteenth time in my life, and am halfway through book two of the second chrons. Every time I read the words "Elena Foul-Wife," I cringe. There are so many moments it's hard to pick two or three. Covenant and Linden "doin' it" is pretty messed up in my book. Just grossed me out sumpin' fierce. I guess they had to get that close for the end to work out though. But still....... Atiarian burning herself up to get Covenant back and getting someone else instead..... And then Troy finding out he was a mistake..... Just too many to list. This forum could be here all by itself...... :?

1) The rape of Lena
2) Elena drinking the Earthblood and summoning Kevin - NO, DON'T DO THAT!!!
3) The kiddies sticking their hands in the fire.

Followed not far behind by:
the plight of the Haruchai at the start of the 2nd Chrons, the razor bun, and Trell gouging fingermarks in the stone of Revelstone in his desperation and wrath...

Thanks for the welcome, iQuestor. I'm re-reading to get ready for Fatal Revenant, you know, catching up on the story so my memories will be fresh when it gets here. More messed up moments in Rocksister's mind:

Hollian's death
Tuvor's "true?" moment
Seadreamer's anguished death (just read that again; terrible)
Covenant's beard bothering him enough to risk the wild magic, but Linden not asking him to help her with her pit/leg hair. Creepy.....

Is there a "dude, that rocks" moments forum, too? Or is that entirely too large for the Internet to contain??? I have a zillion of 'em already.

Well, I'm a little late on this thread and many people have covered a lot of the "dude, that's messed up" moments.

So I'll try to choose ones that havent been mentioned -

- Drool's Red Moon in LFB. I love the eery black and white feel to night when there's a full moon reflecting light from the sun down to earth, and imagining that light being a blood red and drenching everything I see in crimson really gives me the creeps.
- The first meeting of Lord Foul and Covenant in LFB, where LF lays out his message and expects Covenant to deliver it to the Lords. It shows LF's propensity for manipulation and mind games and his utter confidence so early in the story.
- TPTP where "old" Lena has been faithful to the rapist and ever youthful Covenant all her life, and wants to marry him. Covenant, in a heartbreaking gesture, declares that she is his Queen. So personal and damning for Covenant, so touching and yet warped for Lena.

No-one I've read does "dude, that's messed up" moments like SRD does.

1) Sherrif Lyton.

2) Linden trying to kill one of the (dying) Haruchi while in her mind-fog.

3) TC getting kicked out of that Church in TPTP.

... It's so hard. So many of the messed up moments are also moments I really, really loved. Like Linden 'gauzing' her mommy.
