I give it a positive 7.5 out of 10.
Firstly, the negative:
* I cannot put my finger on it after one viewing, but there is a 'feel' of it being "forced" and trying a little too hard to be "Pulf Fiction meets Usual Suspects, meets Leon". The writer has an eye and ear for movies, and the director was trying to shoot it in a fresh manner, but it comes off a little forced to me.
* Lucy Liu does not get naked.
* Making Sleven TOO calm and brushing it off as a disorder (if he really had one) didn't give me any sense of tension. It would have been better if Slevin showed even a modicum of fear for his life
Spoiler
even if he was just pretending
* great actors underutilized. Danny Aiello, Robert Forester are amazing actors that get tiny parts! What the--! Is this an effort just to say, "Hey look at all the great actors in this! It must be a good movie!" Well, to defend that choise a little, they were characters that needed to be remembered, so having name actors play the parts helps one remember them later.
The Good:
* Lucy Liu playing a flighty, flertatious woman! God I was in heaven. She was great.
* Ther cast. Wow. Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Stanley Tucci, Ben Kingsley.... Fabulous cast that do their parts well. The scene with Kingsley and Freeman talking is chillilng. To see those two actors chewing each other out is great. And just to see Freeman as a bad guy is a treat!
* Good, if somewhat overly conveluted story. But it does wrap itself all up in the end. and didn't seem too forced to me. So kudos for that.
OK, back to work for me...
