I see this as a companion thread to the So You Find Yourself in the Land thread. SO the young Lord who summoned you there figures out the mistake and sends you home! But there's another mistake! The Bloodguard whom the Lords assigned to you gets sent home with you! So what would you do with your own pet Bloodguard, other than the obvious of feeding him, clothing him, housing him, protecting and hiding him from overzealous immigration officers, and bequeathing him to your oldest greatgrandchild in your will?
Well first off I would feel very sorry for the bugger! A Bloodguard would be so lost in our world but at least I would never have to worry about being mugged that's for sure or riding the Los Angeles bus transit or walking through Harlem late at night (lol). Guess I would introduce him to my friends as a distant cousin from the Himalayas. Named Vinny. Yeah that's it (lol). And he would be my full-time babysitter to watch over my children.
Seriously for his sake and ours I would be try everything in my power to return him to the Land. I am personally looking forward to hearing more responses from the other servants here!
Guess I'd have to find some false ID or something for the guy so I could send him free...don't know what he'd do when free, maybe he could be me when I die? Could he even be free before I die? It would be fun having him help coach my son's high school wrestling team! Every kid would end up as a state champion! I guess that I would travel around a lot so he could see everything possible, special places like the Grand Canyon. And take him to the Colorado Rockies, definately. Maybe loan him out to the secret service! (though I think a lot of US presidents would be disapointments to him compared to Lords). Maybe get out a business loan and help him start his own training dojo? How many Olympic medals could he win? And in how many sports?
Interesting thought...I guess the bodyguard angle is most obvious
I had other thoughts on this:
Wouldn't the very act of translating 'Earthpower incarnate' to our world break the AoT?
If not...
Would the Earthpower of the Land sustain said Bloodguard (I'm taking Bannor - he's the man!) in our world? Or would he instantly start aging, similar to TC's healing on being translated to the Land the first time?
Earthblood- It would seem the paradoxical relation between the Land and earth would affect said translated Bloodguard. Earth does not contain the Earthpower necessary to sustain this incarnate. A Bloodguard would very likely be susceptible to disease and illness. Especially with having taken no vaccinations ever. And the time displacement involved with translating how would that work in a reverse manner with an Earthpower incarnation?
even if he was only here for a few days, a lot of time would have gone by at home...that would be a bit freakish, eh? hopefully the young lord would pull him back very quickly!
I don't think I could ever take my Bloodguard in the car with me. Everyone I know complains about me always driving too fast, and a Bloodguard might confiscate my keys! I liked it when someone said he or she would introduce their Bloodguard as Vinnie, but I think I would call mine Bob. Why? I don't know. I just like that name. And like that other poster, I think I would like to travel with mine, so when the Lords call him back he can tell them all about our world. Would a Bloodguard like Beethoven? Or a Broadway play? Or something more athletic? Maybe a major sporting event?
If a completely healthy Bloodguard could exist on earth, it is hard to imagine anything defeating him save encounters with motor vehicles and firearms. In the chronicles they faced some serious odds armed with serious weapons. You just don't jump in the face of a Bloodguard armed with a mere baseball bat or knife. Even with superior numbers. Hehehe!
Off-topic: Another detail I like about the books is... though a Bloodguard can take a vow and live 2000 years and more. And basically the Land's ultimate warrior/fighter type, however Donaldson never made the 'Guard completely invincible or perfect. Far from it, many of them did lose their lives over the course of the series given the different circumstances. That was a nice added bonus in 'realism'. One particular sequence that was exciting as it was memorable was when the two Haruchai fought Nom the Sandgorgon. Watch out for those walls! *eek*
Another case scenario: What if you came back to earth with a stowaway Sandgorgon? Hehehe! What do you do?
In the present climate of the U.S. INS and all things associated, can you imagine what random displays of prejudice and what interminable official inquiries would await an expatriate Haruchai--who could not so much as tell the truth about where he came from and be believed?
"That's not in the Middle East, is it? You'll have to come with me, please..."
And couldn't respond violently to such provocations lest some poor idiot get hurt more than was condign.
Or use telepathy (presuming it would even work with flatlander minds) without having available a covering excuse of a cell-phone or email communication, unless he were prepared to prove to some zealous psychiatrist that it wasn't a delusion...
Presuming all those obstacles could be got past, I imagine there are fire departments, rescue squads, and police forces that would fight each other to the death for such a recruit.

It'd be cool having a personal Bloodguard. Would the police really want him though? I mean, he probably wouldn't be that great a team member, considering the 'extravagant risks' that they are so famous for. And he would refuse any weapon that they gave him (not that he would really need it )
I would end up tring to send him back though. If that didn't work though..... Well, I could always...... .... Never mind.
