There's been a lot of good one's recently. Tv seems to be the new premier forum for creative talent, rather than movies. So, which has been the most innovative, which has been the best written, best characters, most poignant...but above all...WHICH HAS BEEN THE BEST!! Oh yeah, and say why or whatever.

West Wing ... at least the first years, had an entertaining pace, and made you think
Lost ... good stories and characters, cliff hangers

Alright then. Imo the best show on tv right now is Rescue Me. I love it because it's excrutiatingly funny in a dark sorta way, the acting is great and so is the writing. It broaches a worth while subject (the fireman and how they got on with their lives after 9/11), but most of all I want to marry this show cos of how un-pc it is. You expect the Sopranos to be a little edgy because...well, they're all gangsters, but in Rescue Me they talk like regular guys, act like regular guys cos they are just regular guy's. There's no agenda, there's no arty crap(like Sopranos) they don't invent wild, crazy storylines to sell advertizing(like 24). They stay true to the show.
Plus all the women are really hot.

Babylon 5. Well plotted out for a 5 year arc, before the pilot was ever even aired, and the creator refused to compromise and stretch it longer, and stood his ground to end it in 5 years, even when the network and stars asked him to do more. Extremely riveting performances from Mira Furlan (Danielle on LOST), Andreas Katsulas (The One Armed Man and Tomolok from Star Trek spin offs) and Peter Jurasik, as well as fantastic performances by many others. Very tightly written, 94 out of 110 episodes written by the creator/Producer himself.

I would have said B5, but I thought it was more than 10 years old. Great show, except for the 5th season.

I'll be honest, I haven't watched any episodes since Sci/Fi stopped rerunning them 6 or 7 years ago. I hope they've held up, 'cause I really enjoyed them then.

Ran from 1994-1998, so as long as we're talking about it ending within the last 10 years, it qualifies.
I say it definitely holds up.
Because of the uncertainty of S5 being produced, he had to close out the existing threads in S4, and wait until S5 was actually produced to start the S5 threads, so yea, S5 is a bit rough to start with, but, by Mid season, the show is at it's peak. The Teep colony should have started filtering in and building itself within the last 2-4 episodes of S4, and the War with Earth, would've lasted until about ep 2-4 of S5, so the transition would've been much smoother, had the threat of cancellation not been looming.

Sin-Yeah, I remember the mess of the 5th season and the impending cancellation. I guess my issue is that season 3 and 4 were soooooo good, season 5 was a real let-down. There's nothing in season 5 that measured up to 'Babylon Squared', 'Comes the Inquisitor', or everything after and including 'War Without End'. That and Susan and Marcus were gone. I've really resisted going back and watching the series because I'm afraid that it won't stand up, and I know that season 5 won't measure up.
But someday I'll break down and buy the DVDs.

Really? You honestly think all of S5 was lower caliber? I thought once the Byron thing was resolved, the show was as good as it ever was. The Centauri Arc in the second half of the season is classic B5. I know alot of people dislike Byron (Which was the way it was supposed to be, but, it wasn't supposed to cause the dislike of the first half)

Again, I haven't watched it since it originally aired, and I can't remember if I caught all the episodes. I did like 'The Long Night of Londo Molari", but that's the only one that stands out. My memory may be off, but I remember being frustrated that there wasn't more of the Londo/G'Kar relationship explained.
