Preparations for Dissection.
Whomever is going to lead the dissection, i.e. assign chapters and all of that... there are 17 in the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone. This is obviously the shortest book of them all. JKR must've allowed herself to indulge with thicker/longer volumes once seeing how popular they are.
Smart author I think, considering that you've no guarantee that anyone will like your books once you start publishing them. So keep it short and simple at the beginning. If folks like it and want more then give it to them.
Anyway I've said I'll take the first chapter and was willing to do two but considering that there are 17 and probably more than that number will want to participate I bow to the wants/needs/desires of others. GOF & OoTP are thick (like Crabbe and Goyle) so those books and the others will allow more folks to chime in.
So as to when? Obviously after TDH is released... why not say, start in mid or late August for the first and go from there.
And I wonder if it wouldn't be too crass to be asking that once Deathly Hollows is out that folks hold off on their discussions until after the dissections or??? How will that be handled?

Well, I am guessing I am taking on the responsibilty of assigning chapters and all.
I was thinking since DH is at the very end of the series, and we will be starting at the very beginning, that it would be OK to discuss DH until we run out of steam before beginning the dissections. I think asking folks to hold off on sharing opinions about a brand new book wouldn't be very fair, ya know?
Since DH doesn't come out until July 21st, I had thought we would be discussing it for at least a good month. Then, with the start of the new school year and all, I figured timing wise the middle of September most would be settled back into their routines. Does that make sense?
The biggest challenge I see is the release of Fatal Revenant in October. But as I said in the other thread, we could always pause the HP dissections for awhile at that time, and come back to it after the holidays or what not. I just want to get it started.
However, I am totally open to input. So far, I think only a couple have posted interest, but even if only five of us begin with Philosopher's Stone (I think we have more non-Americans in this forum than Americans, so I'll go with that title), perhaps others will join in. I think those who start at the beginning should plan on doing multiple chapters. I would like to split the chapters up, unless two absolutely need to be done together.
What do you all think?

Well all that is fine... I just didn't want to be taking away someone's opportunity to dissect a chapter ... right now there's probably little interest because it hasnt' been officially announced.
Suggest, starting a new thread announce and lay down the rules for the dissection, and take names of the interested... have a time limit (Stop me if you already know all of this already... heh), bla bla bla ...
This will be fun and it will certianly be interesting... the TCTC dissections were for me very educational and taught me how to read a great novel differently by seeing it through someone else's eyes.
So cool...
