Exactly. This was the one that hit me when I read the topic.- TPTP where "old" Lena has been faithful to the rapist and ever youthful Covenant all her life, and wants to marry him. Covenant, in a heartbreaking gesture, declares that she is his Queen. So personal and damning for Covenant, so touching and yet warped for Lena.
What's the most unsettling part of the Chronicles?

other ones I came up with while reading TOT:
1. Linden trying to kill Ceer when he had taken a spearpoint for her (and was dying)
2. The Tlast forrestal (Caer-Caraval, aka Hile Troy) fleeing to Andelain when the first sun of pestilence reduced the remainders of the one forest to grey sludge, causing their extinction.

The three moments that stick out in my mind are (in no particular order):
1) The slaughter of the Giants, with the Bloodguard bearing the tale almost breaking...it was almost like taking a punch to the gut.
2) Covenant's ghastly leper stories that he tells whenever support or levity is needed.
3) Covenant realizing that everything that is good and pure in the Land has been corrupted by the Sunbane in TWL.

Hey guys. First post.
My top 3:
1) Covenant bedding Linden 15 minutes after he finds out that (a) she tried to kill Ceer during one of her power-hungry psychotic episodes, and (b) she killed her mom by stuffing a bunch of Kleenex down her throat. It's not that I'm surprised that Linden would do those things (after all, she's got at least 3 or 4 personality disorders), but I couldn't believe how easily Covenant shrugged it off.
2) The Ramen telling Covenant that Pietten was cleaning the Ranyhyn's wounds with his tongue.
3) Finding out that the 3 Bloodguard who had been possessed by the Raver had had their last 2 fingers cut off so that they would look like Covenant.

Yeah, probably. And I always just excuse Covenant's attraction to Linden because he was drunk with venom. He wasn't exactly in his right mind.

There is, of course, a counter-organization for actual *fans* of Linden, though (if you read a bit) you will find that we're having trouble coming up with a reasonable name. (Especially those of us who like Linden, but find Elena just a little too far off the deep end - what would you call that? Patrophilia?)

Yeah, I'm sure there's a name for it. Oddly enough, Elena doesn't bother me that much, despite the fact that she was a total nut-job. Maybe she annoys me less because there weren't any chapters written from her perspective.IrrationalSanity wrote:what would you call that? Patrophilia?)
Counter-organization? Is that the HOTEL thing? Yeah, I definitely see how that could cause dissention in the ranks -- liking Linden but not Elena.

Ah, but I'm not a recruiter.

I like Linden because she's about as f-d up as I am as a Human being. (Once you get to a certain level of f-d up, it's like comparing a 170 IQ to 180 -- completely meaningless.)
Of course, she tries to be more human, I try to be less.
Still, I'd totally do her. Two Legs, Warm, Pulse. No! NO PULSE! PULSE OPTIONAL!
...
Yeah. Pulse optional. Linden's that attractive to me.

Yeah, I can appreciate that sentiment.Emotional Leper wrote:I like Linden because she's about as f-d up as I am as a Human being.
At first, I just disliked her. Then she tried to kill Ceer, and my dislike turned to outright hatred. The Haruchai are my favorite characters, so at that point she passed way beyond my capacity to forgive her. I know she was delusional, but still...
*edit:
I'd be afraid she'd start crying afterward and want to talk about her childhood.Emotional Leper wrote: Still, I'd totally do her.

I'd actually love that. I'm thinking about doing my specialty in Psychiatry, as it combines my love of fixing people with my love of crazy people. I should hope that Linden and I should get along famously. Even if I have to cut off a few fingers, contract leprosy, write a best selling novel or dozen, and become a gaunt skeleton.stormrider wrote:Yeah, I can appreciate that sentiment.Emotional Leper wrote:I like Linden because she's about as f-d up as I am as a Human being.

Actually, I like crazy people, too. My B.S. is in psychology, and I'm currently looking into doctoral programs. Trying to get a bit of clinical experience first. I'm primarily interested in working with the criminally disturbed. I've worked around people who had personality disorders, and some of them really do resemble Linden. They bother me more than the Axis I disorders, but for some reason, I've never had a serious problem with a real person -- maybe it's because I have a genuine desire to understand them, whereas with Linden... not so much.Emotional Leper wrote: I'm thinking about doing my specialty in Psychiatry, as it combines my love of fixing people with my love of crazy people.
The leprosy thing would probably be the hardest to pull off. Just lose the fingers, stop eating for 3 months, brag about writing a novel that never existed, and lie about the leprosy. If you distract her enough...Emotional Leper wrote:I should hope that Linden and I should get along famously.
