It's amazing. My managers screened it.

I won't be able to see this until Friday at the earliest.

Sad, sad tidings for a mod of the JK Rowling forum...

It was alright. But I've never really been much of a Potter fan.

The wife and I saw OoTP at the midnight showing last night. Funny thing is, I am somewhat torn. While it was a good film, very entertaining, the pacing was too fast, and there was too much stuff left out and too much other stuff altered or added. While I liked it more than GoF, I have many of the same gripes I had with it, many of the central characters had only a scant line or two and far too little screen time. I would have gladly given up all the scenes of Filch nailing up Umbridge's decrees(there are a lot of those) for more Tonks, Kreature, etc...

Spoiler

I liked quite a bit. If you like Harry, Ron, and Hermione, Luna and Neville, then this is your movie. However, the supporting cast (the teachers all & the Order..especially Tonks, Lupin, and Kreachur) were absnet in a movie where they should have had a lot more to do. In fact, Sirius lacked SO MUCH time that I wasn't as moved when the inevitiable occurred.

The pacing was good, but there weas a lack of realtionship substance that was sacrificed to move the story/campaign forward.

Can't wait for Curoun to come back for the 6th flick...he is correrect?

that's pretty much what i read about Guns. And although I love movies that give supporting cast their due, it won't keep me from seeing it on the big screen.
And it is understandable if a lot is cut out. Damn Rowling kept making her books longer and longer and longer. (not a bad thing for readers, but difficult for movie goers to appreciate the full story).

I gave a review on the JK thread in Books, however let me give a more movie review here.

*** SPOILERS ***

Firstly, as Jenn has said a number of times, it's a movie ... not the book.
I feel they did a good job of giving what needed to be told from the book. My wife has not read any of the books, seen the movies, and understood everything.
That said, of course if you have read the book there are going to be personal favourite moments you want more of (like the Weasley twins for me), but it is not necessary for the push of the story in a movie.
Excellent pacing. It just kept moving along without losing any of the emotional base. You get a great sense that things are totally going to sh!t, and that Voldemort and the Deatheaters are a threat always arond the corner. And when they finally show up! ... wow, visually very well done...

All the principles were played very well, and it was nice to see all the old teachers back at the Order of the Pheonix.
Snape was played with relish a salways and his limited time on screen is filled with a great performance that is always remembered.
The same goes for Oldman's Serius Black.
And Umbridge was played with a deliciously visious quality behind tah almost comical demeanor. Great work

Jenn commented on how pathetic Harry's first kiss was... poor guy ... hey, lets call it acting for now, as it IS Harry's first kiss ... the guy's not a pro yet... ;)

All the changes made were well thought out. The idea of making it seem like Cho sold them out was a nice touch...

An to close out this review (as I could seriously go on forever --- but I'm working right now --- supposedly), I go back to the pacing.. it was well done,,, I truly felt as if the rise of Voldemort and the Deatheater army was such a powerful, looming threat ... all the little directorial touches (lighting, camera movement) were all used to good effect.

Go see this in the theatre.

two thumbs up

If I can't get Hyperception to go with me tonight, I am going on my own!!! *sheesh* I can't believe I've waited this long...

Poor Beorn, stuck in the mountains of Georgia with no way of getting to a theater or ahold of a copy of the last book when it comes out on Saturday... *snicker*
