Menolly I can't believe that you haven't asked someone else to "temporarily" moderate the forum/threads so that you won't get spoiled.

Besides, I really wanted this forum, even though I was intitially shocked when my name was nominated (blame dlb! it was all his idea). I ain't letting go of the reins now when I just got them.

And.....WOW. Holy Cow, and all that. I'm blown away by this book.

I thought the first couple of hundred pages were pretty slow, and I kept getting distracted - but then the action really picked up and I couldn't put it down after that.

What happened to the major characters that were supposed to die? I don't really consider Fred, Lupin and Tonks "major."

There was one continuity goof that I saw - but otherwise I think JKR tied things up nicely.

Would that be the quick availability of Polyjuice Potion? It took Hermione a month to make it -- I think that was in CHAMBER OF SECRETS.

Harry and Voldemort are major characters. Plus there was Snape, Mad-Eye, and Dobby.

Yeah I can see that... but also remember that Barty Crouch Jr was able to keep a good portion of it in a flask to maintain his ruse as being Mad Eye in GOF... so it stands to reason that once you make it, it can keep for a while, all you got to do when you need it is just add a few hairs or whatever.
Seems like that crap is an acquired taste too as they drank it more than once.

HP is talking to Griphook (I think that was his name - the goblin that helped him break into Gringott's) - he reminded Griphook that they first met "seven years ago." Of course, it was only 6 years. Like I said, very minor.

The goblin Griphook was willing to break into his own bank for the sake of getting the sword (which must be powerful if the Goblin is desiring of it) then he betrays them.

It would actually only be a few months short of seven years, since it's after the easter holidays by that point in the story.
As for him betraying them, he kept his end of the bargain and got them in, and he took the sword for their end because they weren't going to keep the bargain themselves--after that point, the deal was done and he was free to turn against them.

It's not so much the monetary value as the philosophical issue. Goblins apparently have a different view of ownership of the items they've crafted; once the original owner/borrower dies, the goblins believe the ownership reverts to the goblin who made the item. So from Griphook's viewpoint, this was a chance to right a wrong against goblinkind and stick it to the wizards.

Voldemort took some of Harry's blood in GoF, including in it a little bit of the protection that Lily had placed on Harry when she died. This increased the strength of the bond between Harry and Voldemort. In the same way that Voldemort couldn't be killed as long as Harry had a piece of Voldemort's soul in him, Harry couldn't be killed (by Voldemort?) because Voldemort had the blood and Lily's spell in him. When Voldemort attacked Harry, he destroyed the piece of his own soul inside Harry and so lost his protection, but the thing in him that protected Harry remained and kept Harry alive.

He wasn't all dead, he was only mostly dead. Lily's protection in Harry's blood that Voldemort took was still in Voldemort, who wasn't dead. Harry couldn't die unless Voldemort was already all dead.
