What a great article. And I forgot that Will Ferrell was going to do Confederacy of Dunces. What a great book. And too bad that fell through. I heard about that for a while, but never heard it was shitcanned.

This film will always be the weird girl at the book store, the enigmatic one who listens only to bands you've never heard of and who just rolls her eyes when you try to make a joke. Hollywood doesn't need that girl, not with a line of slutty cheerleaders right behind her.

It's a shame that CoD isn't going to happen yet, but I'm not convinced that Will Ferrell was the right guy for the movie.

Great list. If I had to add one, I'd put down the adaptation of Hunter Thompson's The Rum Diary. Gilliam was attached to direct, Depp to star.

Could someone explain to me Confederacy of Dunces? I read it, and read it all, thinking I would eventually get to the part where it either made sense, or got to a point - any point. I would have settled for the barest hint of entertainment. That never happened. I don't understand why this book is lauded for its humor, as I found it to be a painfully annoying account of the trivial lives of mildly unlikeable people. I guess I'm saying I just didn't get it..... I will never get that time back. Am I not refined enough to understand the alleged humor of CoD? Am I too refined?
I *really* don't get the favorable comparison with The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy - which I both understood and enjoyed immensely. I don't see how these two books can be kept in the same bookstore, let alone compared in any way other than one being good-bordering-on-great, and the other as critically-praised dookie.

Anyone here read Good Omens (Neil Gaiman/Terry Pratchett)? It's a very funny (re: British) take on the antiChrist. One sentence description: The AntiChrist has been born, but seems to have been misplaced.
That was going to be a Gilliam project (unfortunately after his Don Quixote debacle) but never got greenlighted due to funding. I certainly hope Gilliam (or someone like) does it some day.

Honestly! I hope Jackson ends up directing it.
