I haven't heard of that particular competition, so I don't know.

LOL Forestal, I meant TIW.

I agree that the lack of sexism in the Land is a particularly refreshing aspect of it. And I honestly don't see where the idea of accusing Donaldson of chauvinism (or even chivalry ;) ) would come from.

On the other hand (and to reopen that old can of worms) he is keener than the average fantasy author on presenting and ultimately redeeming rapist characters.

Which is why TC had to be male. While females can and in some cases do commit rape, statistically it is a crime perpetrated almost souly by men.

Landwaster, in class we have been learning that often in western society a women must adopt what have traditionally been more masculine values such as agression and competition in order to succeed in male dominated areas, such as business. I hope that clarifies a little. :?

You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.

In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.

He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

I think NOWgirl's comments about SRD are a cheap attempt to malign the author. It's an antagonistic, uncharitable attitude that's unworthy of kevinswatch.com. No, I'm not advocating censorship. Actually, I'm hoping this person posts more provocative statements about SRD. Then this person's level of narrow-mindedness, insensitivity and ignorance concerning SRD and The Chronicles will be exposed for all to see.

I have no intentions to malign SRD. I have read all of his books, some of them several times. I think he is wonderfully talented. I also think he grew up in a time of social and political repression for women, and that while he has tried to overcome the affects that had on his upbringing, he still had a ways to go at the time of his writing the Covenant series. I really prefer the Mordant's Need series, and to an extent, the Gap series, though it makes me severely uncomfortable to read about how many times Morn was raped and beaten. And yes, I hated the treatment of Angus too. Even though he deserved some form of punishment, I believe what he got would only serve to perpetuate his behavior pattern of violence . I now realize that some of my posts may have a political viewpoint that is uncomfortable for most, so I am curbing my postings from now on.

You wish. I yank no man's crank.

By the way, I still think Linden would have done just fine if she grabbed Covenant's ring, defeated Foul, and restored the land. That way, Covenant wouldn't have had to die (in the Land), and you boys would still have your male hero in the upcoming series. Unless SRD is planning on resurrecting TC (which would make sense because the books are about him), it looks like I'll get my wishes for a female starring (as opposed to co-starring) character instead. Or is Roger going to be in the land this time?|L

Did I use the wrong expression? Over here, the term would have been 'having a lend of yers'.
