Maybe its a local thing, but we call those elusive critters chipmunks, not squirrels.

Sea: that starfish is amazing!

I've never actually seen one, and it totally fascinates me. :D

Cool starfish!

Wait a minute....8O

Those Tidal River trees that were posted a while back, together with the other-worldliness of the sunsets, the unusually large marsupial, and that weird alien creature posted above....

Hmm, are you keeping the secret of transgalactic space travel from us Sea?

:)

Good to see you around, Reave. Really like your "Land's End" shot; I'd save it for use as wallpaper if only there was a bigger size version. (Hint, hint) :)

A conspiracy? From our beloved Seareach? Say it isn't so!

And yeah, like Edge, I've never seen a starfish myself...and I don't recall ever seeing one like Sea's, even on nature programs.

Wayfriend...see, aren't you glad I made the effort to Google? I'm a more enlightened city bum now, secure in my knowledge of the difference between chipmunks and squirrels. :P

One more note: Just want to say it's pretty neat that this thread has become such a showcase for photos from around the world (apart from the KW Album). :)

 Me? Conspiracy? Too right!

However, the truth to this situation is very boring (no space travel involved). I am lucky to live in a wonderful part of Oz.

Can't believe you guys haven't seen a real starfish! That one was a "jewel" though. We have several different types in the rockpools down here but I'd never seen one like that before. And it was only about the size of a US quarter (an inch across). Hopefully when the weather warms up I'll be able to get pictures of the sea urchins which are amazing!

Well I've seen THESE kinds of starfish, but NEVER one like that. Bizzarre.

MM, water lillies are my favorite flower! Love the second one (my new desktop pic!).

And great starfish, Balon (or are they all now technically called Sea Stars?!?!). We get long armed ones like them here but they've got spikes all over them.

Balon's starfish are the type I've seen as well, mostly down in the Florida Keys. I, too, have never seen one like the one in Sea's photo.
