Thor

Post by Fist and Faith »

Well, we can certainly find MUCH to discuss about Thor. Simonson being the best of it all.

But the reason I'm starting a Thor thread right this moment is because of issue #3 that just came out.

I like the new Thor book, thus far... but I dearly hope they play it carefully this time. I was a bit skeptical when they said they'd bring back Thor - the Ragnarok story arc of Avengers Disassembled was easily the best part of the story, and the ending felt like, well, the end of Thor and Asgard. I would have been content seeing everything ending there, especially since Thor had basically become a cosmic-level deity through the Odinforce, the Runes, and the wisdom of the well of Mimir.

I was worried that the new Thor book would necessarily de-power him back to his normal levels (which I would have hated, since after all he performed sacrifices and acquired wisdom during the trials of godhood), and I was also worried that the "quest for the gods" would be a rehash of the similar "quest for the gods" in which Red Norvell was involved during the months when Thor was in the Heroes Reborn universe.

Thus far, it seems I needn't have worried - the comic is awesome (and I relished Iron Man's beating - he certainly didn't expect Thor to know about his clone already, and probably didn't even expect him to get so pissed off about it ;) )... I hope it remains awesome :D

By the way, are you aware a Thor movie is in the works?

I'm also glad to see Iron Man get his butted kicked, which is crazy, because I'm an Iron Man fan. I guess I just can't stand how Marvel turned him into a tool during the Civil War arc, and I'd like to see him return to being a hero, and I'm hoping someday soon some Marvel writers will get their heads out of their asses and start making the good guys good, and maybe even have some of them fight the bad guys instead of each other. Oh, and I'm digging Thor now that he is Don Blake again!

I loved it too.
I was dreading that they would just have Thor forgive Tony, although not be friendly with him.
His reaction was pure Thor!!

I missed the whole Thor rules Asgard and takes over the world story arc.
I picked up a few issues but never found it too interesting.

This series rocks.

No, I wasn't aware of a movie! 8O Yikes, so much potential for it to be good or crap.

And yeah, in a rare moment of weakness, I agree with dAN.

the Thunderbolts having Venom, Bullseye and the Green Goblin as members. Stark must pay for that.

The Thunderbolts started off having ex-villains in their team, right? So in that sense I guess Marvel's being consistent. On the other hand, those three are so evil and insane that it's impossible how Stark could even think about using them, especially since it was his idea to remove the Hulk from our universe prior to the Civil War. This whole thing is so out of hand I don't think Marvel will ever put it back together again. I mean, I see Spiderman on the lamb, I see the New Avengers in hiding, but then I get Daredevil and he could care less; he just keeps on doing whatever he wants to and you never see Iron man chasing him down. There's just too much inconsistency going on here, and there's been so many 'reboots' over the last 20 years that I wonder why they keep writing themselves into these corners.

how do they get out of this mess? registration shouldn't just vanish. and if it is deemed wrong, what do you do with all the heroes you locked up? how do you justify the Thunderbolts? has Spiderman confronted Stark about Venom and Osborne? how do you explain allowing Captain America to die? if you claim it was all Skrulls wouldn't the human authorities want steps taken to ensure it doesn't happen again? how is the human population taking all of this? how do you erase Spidey unmasking? how are they explaining the lastest Hulk rampage. you are right, they seem to have written themselves into a corner. our goverment hires Venom and he eats someone's arm!?!?!

This is my complaint with DC - Crisis on Infinite Earths, Zero Hour, Millenium, Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis, now Final Crisis coming up - when does it end?

It ends when it stops making them money.

Civil War was initially good. But there's no way it would go on for so long. Stark thinks things like making a Thor clone, Bill Foster's death, and Cap's death are "acceptable losses" on the road to a better USA??? When did he fall so far from being a hero! He and Cap had a falling out long ago, I think it was called the Armor Wars. But that wasn't nearly like this. Stark may as well be the Voice of the Masters.

No no no......

Wasn't there a reason Tony and Reed acted the way they did?
That something really really bad was destined to happen and the course they took, the Civil War arc, was the lesser of all evils?

It had something to do with Reed and Tony figuring out some super being math problem or something.
The Mad Thinker was impressed when he saw Reeds equations if I remember.
The "bad thing" was hinted about but never explained.

I don't remember that, although that certainly doesn't mean it didn't happen.

However, Luke Cage has been saying for a few issues that this all feels wrong, and he thinks somebody is pulling strings. Then
Spoiler
Elektra turned out to be a Skrull.
So even if the entire story arc ends up being stupid, or bad, or whatever, maybe I'll be able to let Stark out of the doghouse.

Yes, I remember that as well... apparently Reed created an equation that showed that if registration wasn't approved and pushed for, the world would be poised on the brink of disaster, and that's why he went along with it and even helped (creating the Thor clone for example). If I remember correctly, the prison in the negative zone is named "42" because it was number 42 on Stark's list of 100 things to do to change the world for the best...
Spoiler
And by the way, not only was Elektra a Skrull, but Jessica Jones's baby showed skrully eyes lately too, which led people to think maybe the baby, Jessica or possibly even Cage may be Skrulls...

continuity turns out to be partly to blame. gone are the days that 4 different SUpermen can be running earth one. now they have to all fit in. meanwhile the best of DC continues to be stuff like Golden Age and Kingdom Come. stories set outside the limitations of continuity. and I have been reading LSH off and on for 30 years, why don't I recognize half the team up till the latest storyline?

Yeah, that was in the FF issue right before he and Sue quit the team. Still, it's a flimsy excuse; I want to see the situation that proves his equations.
Spoiler
Like, let's say that Reed, Tony, Black Bolt and others are Skrulls, and the equation was done by the original Reed, and the Skrull Reed showed it to the Thinker, hoping to figure out what it meant, but now the Hulk shows up and kills the Skrulls (thinking they're the heroes who betrayed him), and it turns out that it was Skrulls who sent Hulk into space, and Spiderman ends up saying it was a Skrull impersonating him that unmasked himself, pretending to be Parker....gods, the mind reels at the very thought of it. Too bad I can't come up with a scenario that makes Cap alive again.
