Iron Maiden's "Powerslave" Mega-tour

Post by danlo »

5 continents, 4 hours, 3 different eras!
To tie in with forthcoming 2008 releases on DVD of the classic 'LIVE AFTER DEATH' and 'MAIDEN ENGLAND' concert videos (more details coming soon) this tour, aptly entitled 'SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME', will revisit the band's history by focusing almost entirely on the 80's in both choice of songs played and the stage set, which will be based around the legendary Egyptian Production of the 1984-85 'Powerslave Tour'. This will arguably be the most elaborate and spectacular show the band have ever presented, and will include some key elements of their Somewhere In Time tour of 1986/7, such as the Cyborg Eddie.

Bruce Dickinson is back? I may have to check this tour out, if possible. Maiden was one of my three favorite bands in the '80s... Blue Öyster Cult, Metallica, and Iron Maiden.

Bruce has been back for quite some time. I'm really looking forward to seeing this tour. It'd be nice if they went out with Priest again, just like the Screaming for Vengeance/Number of the Beast tour.

Didn't they just do something like this, go on tour and play old stuff only?

I like Maiden (in fact, until recently I played in a maiden tribute band :R), but it seems they really have to fall back on stuff like this, because their latest release is crap. And yes, Bruce has been back for ages.

Actually, my understanding is that this tour is to make up for their last tour, in which they only played new stuff.

Actually, I think for the tour you're thinking of they only played Stuff from their debut through piece of mind. So perhaps this new tour is Powerslave - 7th son. (which I actually like better)

I didn't go, but according to Eddie Trunk, the last tour they played no old stuff at all.

On the last tour, they played the new album in its entirety, plus five or six older songs tagged on at the end. It was actually really good, and I consider the latest album one of their best. Having said that, Powerslave and Seventh Son are also among my favourites, and I hold some small, stubborn hope that they might actually perform The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

And yes, Bruce rejoined the band for Brave New World in 2000.

The NEWEST stuff (the reunion stuff) is actually pretty decent. I think Dance of Death is a damn good album. (Not particularly into Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg though)

Honestly, Powerslave is probably my favorite IM album. Not a weak track, the pinnicle of their 5 piece-no synth setup.

Man, they've gotta come here.

They've only been to New Orleans twice, for the Powerslave tour in '84, and then back again for the Seventh Son tour in '88.

I'd go as far as Houston if they go there, though...
