It is quarter to four in the morning, my time. I am awake. I have been awake since three. I don't know why. I crawled out from the foggy vestiges of a dream I can't remember. I realized I had to pee so I got out of bed. I peed, I stopped at the fridge to get a swig of watered down limeade. I crawled back into bed. I pulled the covers up and loved on the Mooseman for a minute. I felt exhausted. I lay with my head on the pillow for half an hour listening to Moose alternately snore and wake and beg for love by licking my hand. Yes, tiny chihuahua's snore. At least mine does. I got up, I wandered into the living room. I am wandering the house trying not to wake BGB. My spider bite itches. Thank god I don't live in Au cuz i would be dead by the frequency of the insects/arachnids that find an bite me. I wish I could sleep.

I kind of know what you're going through, Jenn. Mani woke me up at 4:30 for a false alarm and I wasn't able to get my extra hour back. :)

Wednesdays are my Mondays. Two days off work and now back to the grind. As it happens, tonight I also have dance class. And I'm having a luxurious breakfast, due to a severely underpriced steak I got at my local Von's.

So I'm okay.

I've been sleeping erratically lately, mainly due to pain. That toothache turned into a full blown mess by the time I finally got into the appointment yesterday. It is almost certainly an abcessed tooth. Over the weekend, it just kinda hurt, so I figured it would keep doing that, and on Tuesday, all would be better. What happened was Monday, I noticed that my face was starting to swell a bit on that side of my face. Not a big deal. I just had 24 hours to go. When I got home after work, it was really laying in with the pain. The tooth didn't hurt, it was all the swelling that was hurting. It felt like someone was filling half of my face up with liquid and weird things were inflating. I made the mistake of looking it up online, and with the usual "you are going to die-go to the emergency room now" advice that the web tends to give with any problem, I started to get real nervous.
So pretty much no sleep Monday night. At about 4am, the swelling had gotten so bad, I felt like it was starting to impede my breathing, so I freaked out and went to the emergency room. I told them the situation, and they asked if I had ever had a panic attack before. It was then I knew that I had made a mistake in going there. They told me that it was impossible for my breathing to be cut off from swelling, especially since it was a tooth on the upper side of my mouth. But they did say I did the right thing in coming, possibly because my panic could have been what would cause me to stop breathing. Mainly I just wanted some antibiotics so the swelling would go down, and they gave me some and I went on my way. The long 3 hour wait later, finally I was in the dentists chair, my face especially swollen, the veins in my gums popping out....if I wasn't so tired, I might have weeped it hurt so bad. But I knew they would take care of me. So, I wait the extremely long time for the dentist to come around, who then bangs on my teeth with a metal object after the assistant takes a picture and rips the plastic jobby out of my mouth. Comfort Dental, my ass. Anyway, I'm just waiting for "we are going to give you some shots and take care of all this for you." At that point, I was looking forward to it, expecting the fresh clean pain better than the dull throbbing pain. No luck. The dentist said it is too swollen to be able to do anything, and I wouldn't want him to anyway. I want to disagree, but I'm too tired to protest. So he give me prescription for antibiotics and pain medicine (generic vicodin). The emergency room had given the same prescription, although percocet instead of vicodin. I know that I have enjoyed percocet before, but not sure I have ever had vicodin. I decide to go with the flavor that the dentist gave (though I might just fill the perc for later...tee hee hee). The vicodin lasts pretty much 4 hours only, and after those 4 hours are up, if I'm not awake, I suddenly am, and things start aching again. So I've been in and out of sleep for the past day, and I tried this morning to go off the pain meds so I could try to go to work, but things still hurt too much, so I called in. Sucks.
So that's the fun little adventure I've had the past couple days.

And the pain meds prevent me from organizing this like the English degree I have would suggest I would. Hopefully it reads well. I'm going back to sleep now. Nighty-night!

Don't worry, your post is readable. Very sorry about your dental (mis)adventure. Yeah, toothaches must one of the truly insufferable things in life. And as I'm typing this at work, there is drilling going on in the main lobby below. What a nice mental association.

Spider bites? Yikes! I've been having a bedbug problem myself, and I hope that's all it is. The thought of spiders on me in the middle of the night would be freaky. Bedbugs look especially gross and evil once they're engorged with the blood they just sucked out of you. I take some minor satisfaction out of crunching the life out of them if I catch one, but I wonder if there's any way I can rid myself of this pest without resorting to calling the professionals. I googled for info on insect bites and it appears that in the past few years bedbugs have re-emerged as a big nuisance in North America.

Oh man, Cag, I feel your pain. I had a toothache a few years ago that was so bad that it hurt to talk. Couldn't sleep, etc. At about 3am Saturday, I left a message on my dentist's answering machine: "I am coming in first thing this morning -- hopefully you can take care of me right away!" And he did. I love my dentist.... Anyway, hopefully the swelling will go down soonest and your dentist can rip that puppy out of there.

The rest of you: What is with all the sleeplessness?? Who do you think you are, Haruchai?? Go to bed! Now!

Oh it's definitely a spider bite. Hard swollen center with two distinct puncture marks, about a two inch radius of swollen tissue surrounding the center swollen lump. I seem to be some sort of lodestone for insects/arachnids. If there were 500 people packed into one room and one stinking mosquito, that dang mosquito would seek me out and bite me and only me.

Had another punk kid knock my cane out from under me at the mall ( "Because no one your age needs to use a cane, faker!").

Am wondering how many times this must happen before I am allowed to go on a caning spree at Hot Topic and Spencers.

Frazzeled and conflicted.

Work has been absolutely kicking my butt over the past several days, and today shows every sign of continuing that trend. So that's causing no small amount of stress.

Of course, some of it is self-induced, becuase later this week I'll be leaving on vacation. My wife and I are going to Kauai for about a week and a half. 8) We've never been to Kauai before, though we have been to other Hawaiin islands. So I'm really looking forward to sitting on the beach with a fruity drink and a good book (unfortunately, FR won't arrive before I leave, so I gotta take someting else :? ).

Normally this'd be the point where I'd have the non-stop big goofy grin, especially because we haven't taken a vacation together for over two years, but... We're also both pretty nervous, because we're leaving our 2 year old son at home while we go. My wife has had a couple of weekend trips since he was born, but I don't think I've been away from him for more than 36 hours at a shot, so this is considerably different. He's spending time with the two sets of grandparents while we're gone. There's sure to be some amount of spoiling involved, which I'm ok with, and I'm sure they'll take very good care of him, but even so, it's a long time to be away from him. And if I'm kinda nervous about it, my wife is even worse. I'm really hoping she'll be able to relax some and not spend the whole trip worrying. :?

So I'm stressed, exicted, and aprehensive all at the same time. Frazzled and conflicted pretty much covers it.

Can you buy antihistamines over there Jenn? If you can get it, get Chlorphenamine (Piriton's the brand name here) and get some crotamiton cream or hydrocortisone cream to apply too.

I seem to be some sort of lodestone for insects/arachnids
See if you can get some high dose 50mg Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) tablets, one a day will help but if you're having particular problems (like now!), take 50mg three times a day.

Edit: or just get KW's newest member, Spider Bishop, to excommunicate the little .....
