We are all ok. Seriously. Yes it was scary. But it's all good now, for us anyway. Thanks everyone for the posts of hugs, sympathy, kind words, pm's, phone calls and general love. I certainly needed it. Julie was a sweetie and came over just to hug me after she found out about the second fire. Gots to love your bestest friend. She was so sweet on the phone. I called her about ten minutes before I found out about the house next door was still on fire and then called her again hours later to tell her about the secondary fire after much cleaning and she was like, "Do you need anything?" and I said, "Nah, we gots it under control." and she said, "I am coming over anyway to give you hugs." 8) I never ever turn down hugs. Lucimay offered empathy and cleaning help too. Way too sweet. I actually think I needed to clean to help myself deal with all of it. Kind of cathartic. My own version of Caamora. Anyway, seriously, it's all good now. The emotional reaction has been seen through and dealt with. :P

P.S. Lucindarellamaybecrazy, If I haven't mentioned it lately, I loves you and your "weird ;) /fun/fabulousness" makes me wish every watcher lived here so that all the watchers could all hang out and enjoy the craziness of each other IRL like we do. You rock! :P
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

I am attending a lecture tonight on infrared analysis of variable stars in the southern hemisphere. It should be great. :)

Nice perk, Balon. If you like going to the movies. ;)

I think that over the last 10 years, I may have gone to 10 movies at the theater. Three of those were the LOTR series and also I saw two of the three new Star Wars movies.

My dad used to run a Drive Inn and movie theater when I was a teenager which was cool (all the free movies I got to see). But my favorite thing to do was cleaning up in the cinema after a full house. You could make a fortune from all the money you'd find under the seats!

YES. I've found a round thirty bucks in change over the last couple of months. I've also gorged myself of half empty boxes of candy. :P

Beorn is taking the PSAT starting at 9:00. Unlike the Duke talent search where he took the SAT as a 7th grader, this is an official attempt at it that will remain on his College Board records. But as a 9th grader, his school views this only as a measurement of where he stands in standardized test taking ability. IIRC, they will have him take it again next year, and then the third and final attempt in 11th grade to try to qualify for National Merit consideration.

Unlike the SAT he took in 7th grade, I had plenty of notice about registering for this test, so all of Beorn's IEP accomodations should be in place. Although two different tests, it will be interesting to see if they do make a difference in his scores. I am positive it will make a difference in his reaction to the testing when I pick him up to come home. At least, I sure hope it will!

If anyone can spare some calming and concentrating vibes Beorn's way between 9:00 am and noon EDT, it will be appreciated. :)

Well...Beorn's done.

The PSAT was done differently than the SAT, so the lack of accomodations may not affect the scores all that much.

When he took the SAT, it was given at UF and he was in a room with at least 200 others in it. He said that didn't bother him too much, as he was able to get a desk near a window.

The PSAT was given at his high school, and was given in multiple classrooms divided alphabetically by surname. So at most there were only 30 students in his room. He says he was OK with that.

There were no short answer nor essay questions. Only some grid answers in the Math portion and the rest were multiple choice. So the lack of technology accomodation seems to have been averted.

He claims he didn't need the extended time; that he finished all of the sections with time to go back and work on any answers he initially skipped.

He estimates that there were 139 questions total on the test among the five different sections. He knows he was unable to answer four total questions, so he skipped them and left them blank. On four others, he eliminated the choices down to two answers, and went ahead and guessed at them. The rest he's pretty confident about, but there's always the possibility he made some careless mistakes.

He came out fairly calm and happy. Considering how he went in to the test, I'm relieved. Thanks to everyone for sending the vibes to help him through this.

Now to await results...

Gotta prep for dinner at Julie's tonight. We're finally gonna eat udon and watch Tampopo, a favorite of mine. Also on the menu are tempura, teriyaki fish and tofu, spicy tuna, hijiki salad and a selection of sakis.

Sunday at the Great American Music Hall I'll be dancin' my tail off to Southern Culture on the Skids, a show I never miss. They play swamprock/trashabilly/surf style and get real active with the audience. S'alot of fun.

I'm going to waste time today after I go to Fed Ex. If I had any ambition I'd go riding, but that seems too effortful. I might *gasp* go to church tomorrow.

Running after kidz, as usual...kept them up till 11 last night thinking they'd sleep in while Tam and I partied from then till 2. HAHAHA!!! They didn't sleep in! So now I'm> :crazy: We went to the park and the weather's crisp with a dash of warm air. Temperatures are supposed to drop 30 degrees tomorrow with 40-50 mph winds-so the plumber better get his ass over here to light my pilots as he promised. With that in mind I need to drain the swamp-cooler and put it's cover on.

I also need to yank the rest or the tomato plants out of the garden. Tam's peeling tons of tomatos for canning and froze two bushels of green chili yesterday-yummm! (the essence of life). Kids are watching Little Einstiens and whineing, periodically. May rent a movie tonight and its FOOTBALL all day tomorrow 8O man I love Fall! (FOOTBALL, FOOTBALL)

Jay don't work too hard!
