yea, the dancers and some of the girls in the bars where mystery sends the guys into to pick up girls.Menolly wrote:Are we talking about the dancers (remember, I haven't seen the show)? If so, they're "entertainers." I'm sure they jumped at the chance for nationwide exposure.KiGirl wrote:one more point...i've been thinking about the blurred faces of everyone except for the girls. that doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't for real. maybe the show's producers got permission after the fact to air those girls on the show. isn't that what the show cops does?

I see how he wouldn't be a lot of girls type, I really do. But I don't have a type- I like a man with confidence, intelligence, and something to say, regardless of whether they look like Vin Diesel or Mystery. (I'll take one of each with a side of Peter Petrelli to go, please.) Not saying that I don't care what the guy looks like, because I'm just as shallow as the next club-hopper, but I don't have a "type" is what I'm getting at.
Ok, and I dig the eyeliner too... but that's beside the point.

There's a saying I used to hear alot in my club-hopping days about women: Intelligence, Beauty, Sanity. Pick Two.Waddley Hasselhoff wrote:I see how he wouldn't be a lot of girls type, I really do. I now have a corresponding law for men: Confidence, Intelligence, or something to say. Pick Two.
Of course, whether it's an integer two or something along the lines of 2 = C+I+S, I don't know.
As to eyeliner and girls going after guys who look 'gay,' appearance of homosexuality seems to be alot like wearing a wedding band. It makes you 'safe,' for some reason. Or, desirable, because you're off limits. We always want that which we can't have.
I shall stop before I start to dig into popular american entertainment mediums.

Pfft, I think the eyeliner just makes him look a little more like Captian Jack Sparrow, and that's a Very Good Thing.
Also, if everyone was sane the world would be horrible and boring.
And I think you're short changing men here if you say that confidence, intelligence and having something to say are traits difficult to find all in one place. I mean really, take a look at all the men of the Watch. They're all studs.
I think my point has been proven.

And I'm not short-changing men. I'm just honest enough about being male to admit that everything in a male's life revolves around the sex drive -- either looking to get laid, or redirecting that drive into other paths, which still lead back to getting laid (war, art, politics...)
And when you consider that the population of the watch is 2.35526689 times ten to the negative fifth percent of the World's Population, I think your point is not proven.

I'm confused. . . you're saying that Jack Sparrow doesn't look gay? Whether or not that's good is a personal choice, but Jack Sparrow definitely, objectively, absolutely looks gay. Or at least effeminate.WH wrote: Pfft, I think the eyeliner just makes him look a little more like Captian Jack Sparrow, and that's a Very Good Thing.
Wavy hand gestures when he talks. Check.
Eyeliner. Check.
Lots of frilly clothes. Check.
Prefers to spends months out at sea with a boatload of sweaty guys. Check.
Nope, nothing gay about that!

Jack Sparrow is pretty much a ripoff of the Dandy Highwayman from Adam and the Ant's "Stand and Deliver" music video, anyway. And Adam Ant did, indeed, pull of being gay in that very well, if indeed he was 'pulling it off.'
There is an unwritten rule that says "effeminate male == homosexual male."

Damn! That's what I've been doing wrong all these years! Instead of relying on a deep-seated confidence of myself, I should have been relying upon shallow, outward appearanc- Wait a minute. Those aren't the girls I want.KiGirl wrote:Mortice Root wrote:Interesting. My wife claims she finds Mystery unattractive and ridiculous. I thought the incongruity made it funny. Apparently I was wrong.Emotional Leper wrote: I figure'd you'd word that disclaimer the other way around, matey.

Of course not all gay men are pirates . . . but everyone is so touchy about offending (well, not me, but I've heard that other people care about stuff like that

Even though I hate pdf, I've been reading.
The wedding band is a double-edged sword, I think. I didn't wear one until a few years after I got married. I got hit on a lot by women that knew I was married. I figured the ring would make that worse (or better, depending on your outlook), but it was definitely not the case. If I had to guess, on one hand, it demonstrates preselection. But on the other, it would obviously trigger the ASD (anti slut defense).
As for being gay... those things are obviously peacocking effects, but one of the negs are "I'd be into you if I wasn't gay." Seriously. I guess the important part is that at a certain stage, they know you're not gay or don't care.

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Yeah, good points about the wedding bands. I always wear mine and sometimes I think women come up to talk to me because I'm taken (and therefore safe and non-threatening). Of course some may because they like taken men. So it's probably some of both, what do I know?
