Post-Read Regurgitation

Post by Krilly »

Just finished--gotta ramble.

- Darn, was hoping for Mr. Despiser to have some page-time. Maybe due to his severely small amount in Runes and no-showedness in Revenant the next book will sate my appetite.

- Does anyone else miss the leprosy factor of the first Chronicles? I feel like this Chron. (and to the lesser extent, the second) is missing an intriguing underscore--as leprosy was to the first. HOWEVER, the skurj reminded me of the disease, especially Linden's description of them here. They almost seem like leprosy to the Land.

- The entire segment featuring the Theomach kinda threw me. Is Time in the Land a single time line? Did the Theomach only become Guardian because of Linden's aid or did he do so alone in another time line? Or did Linden actually help him in the Land's history as always and was destined to do so? The books seem to indicate the latter is correct. If that's the case, they couldn't find Anele's Staff because they had already found and taken it BEFORE... weird.

- I keep wondering if SRD has thrown me a subtle hint regarding the importance of Jeremiah's race car yet. If so, I missed it. Mayhap the importance lies only in strict symbolism (along the line of half-hand), but who knows?

There's more, but I cannot deem to type out those thoughts just yet.

Welcome to the club Krilly!

I absolutely miss the leprosy/TC angst. I started re-reading TPTP last night. I was shocked at the emotional power of the "real world" parts of that book. I had totally forgotten how great it started and just how damn good it was.

RE: the racecar. I feel the same way as you do......

For me, even though he hasn't been "on stage" much, I felt Foul "watching" from the sidelines the whole time while reading FR. If you know what I mean; just picturing him sitting back, relaxed, knowing that things are going exactly as he's planned all along.

Or so he thinks... ;)

My opinion of the race car is that it was only for "show" - to prove that the Jeremiah in front of Linden actually came from the "real world" and wasn't some sort of ghost.

eye twitching

Post by CT »

Did anyone else get a sense that all the eye twitching that Jeremiah did was intended as the "real" Jeremiah trying like heck to communicate w/ Linden? Like having the croyel made him able to outwardly communicate thought the croyel was suppressing what J wanted to say, obviously. I personally think we're going to get some Jeremiah POV in the next 2 books, showing him fighting against the croyel somehow.

Also to be a heart wrenching guilt tripping reminder of her son's fate, now that it's in her hands.

I'm still trying to figure out the significance of that race car. I bet that when all is said and done, it's the final piece to a construct that saves the land or sends Linden and Jeremiah home.

Lord Foul didn't show up in person for the entire second book of the First Chronicles, either.

Personally, I think he's laughing his heart out at the way Linden is doing exactly what he wants. Why should he speak to her when he doesn't need to change anything she's doing?
Choiceless, you were given the power of choice. I elected you for the Land but did not compel you to serve my purpose in the Land... Only thus could I preserve the integrity of my creation.

Seems to me the " Leprosy" factor is now Linden's dull blade of a mind or her naivete'..I mean,, even Esmer gets all frustrated with her dim wit. Its her " limitation"Don't get me wrong, i don't dislike Linden for that trait. I accept it just like I accepted Tom's leprosy and Iwill make the assumption that Linden's flaw , she will eventually get beyond as TC did with his Leper mind.
If she withdrew from exaltation, she would be forced to think- And every thought led to fear and contradictions; to dilemmas for which she was unprepared.

Ya, he was absent from the One Tree too, right?

Lord Foul's lack of facetime in the chronicles is sometimes a disadvantage because you want to see him plotting and conniving, but all in all I think it adds to his personality.

No-one's really yet considered the possibility that Jeremiah is quite happy with his relationship with the Croyel. It has to be said that Croyel/Jeremiah acted just like a teenage boy, albiet a rather evil one.

Everything we know about Croyel is that they strike bargains, they don't possess.

That proves nothing.

All teenage boys are evil.
