Want more Half-Life?

Post by Worm of Despite »

I just had to suggest this awesome single-player mod:

MINERVA
(Requires Half-Life 2: Episode One)

I'm definitely a fan of Minerva. It's more challenging than Half-Life 2, the architecture is more realistic and imaginative, and the game progressively gets better as you play along. It was created by one guy, Adam Foster, and I think Valve's crazy if they don't hire him on.

Also: this mod has very short loading times, despite feeling huge. This is mainly because the map expands vertically, rather than the Valve way of making horizontal maps.

Half Life, Half Life 2, and Deus Ex are liek my top 3 "need to play" games.

Half-Life is getting the reputation as being the best game series ever. Dues Ex is a great game.

That mod looks good but I don't own Half-Life 2: Ep1 but I will get the Orangebox soon

A tip, Quee: Get it from WH Smiths, or directly from Steam. Cheaper than any of the other stores.

Loved HL. HL 2 is really good, too...but very dark. Got the Orange box and loved playing Portal! Stuck somewhere outside in HL Ep 2 near the ground pounders and all sorts of critters surrounding us...throwing cars our way, etc.

Just started playing Minerva from link above....very fun! But now stuck there, too! I just reached underground of the laser shooting up in the sky and I can't find a way past the forcefield door or the locked door and I've been all over the various levels down there; I don't see what else to do. There is no walkthrough yet for Minerva.
Cowboy: Why you doin' this, Doc?
Doc Holliday: Because Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Cowboy: Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.
Doc Holliday: ... I don't.

All I can say is Minerva is much more difficult than Half-Life 2. The AI seems to fight harder; they make better use of cover and can flank you if you don't watch out. It reminds me of Far Cry, to some extent, where you can't charge in like Rambo.

Does it have a difficulty setting? Because it sounds like I'd need to keep it low.
