Um ... getting back to the subject at hand (which is what they must have used, since I don't remember the mention of paper or leaves in any of the Land's lavatories)...

Lena told Covenant something like "you can walk the length and breadth of the Land eating nothing but aliantha, and return healthier than when you left." (well, that's close enough anyway) But I also remember someone saying, "you have the thin look of someone who's eaten nothing but aliantha for days".

I tend to agree with Romeo that as Lena said that you could go the length and breadth of the land on their strength alone.I think that as they are an expression of the health and earth power of the land I think it stands to reason that you could continue to eat them for....well along time without
physical reaction except perhaps to be vitalized. You all may remember that wood could be lit for as long as needed through the use of lore also an expression of earth power...so I believe the same would hold true for aliantha...
There is also love in the world......

We're not really going to start taking this discussion seriously are we? :-) In any case excellent posts all around!

Sorry. Didn't mean to make it sound like I was taking it seriously. But since noone else mentioned it, I thought I'd throw it in.

The Lena quote, not the hand thing. :-)

After having a few years to consider this question with more "perspective" I have come to wonder what would happen if, by some terrible twist of fate, a person was allergic to the fruit? If a normal allergic reaction would cause blotchy skin, bloating, nausea and dizzyness what would Aliantha do to a person? Since it's packed with earthpower I'm afraid it could be sickeningly fatal.
