agreed, though it took a lot to make me admit I liked it more than TIW> I love TIW.Emotional Leper wrote:Fatal Revenant is now number one.

Finished "Fatal Revenant" a couple of days ago (I took my time with it and enjoyed it slowly, knowing full well its going to be a long three years) and it was exceptional. Much better than "Runes", to the point that it gives me great hope that the final two books are going to be fantastic.
So, in order:
1. The One Tree
2. The Illearth War
3. Fatal Revenant
4. The Power that Preserves
5. The Wounded Land
6. White Gold Wielder
7. Lord Foul's Bane
8. The Runes of the Earth
This is hard to do actually - my order would change over time. Really, I probably would say I like The One Tree and "Illearth" about the same, and the same goes for TWL and "Preserves".

The One Tree
The Wounded Land
White Gold Weilder
The Illearth War
Fatal Revenant
The Power That Preserves
Lord Foul's Bane
The Runes of the Earth
They're all 5 star books to me, except 4 stars for "Runes."

I gotta say I didn't like Runes as much as most of the rest of the 1st and 2nd chron. but FR makes me leap with joy (or maybe pain at waiting sooo long for the rest) But anyway here's my list
1.Fatal Revenant
2. White Gold Wielder
3.The Wounded Land
4.The Power That Preserves
5. The Illearth War
6. The One Tree
6. Lord Fouls Bane
7. The Runes Of The Earth
1.Fatal Revenant
2. White Gold Wielder
3.The Wounded Land
4.The Power That Preserves
5. The Illearth War
6. The One Tree
6. Lord Fouls Bane
7. The Runes Of The Earth
"You can get much farther with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone"-Al Capone
Here are my picks:
1) The Wounded Land - Just as you thought the series could go nowhere after Covenant's victory in TPTP, the story takes an amazing turn. The Land when knew and loved is different. Linden sulks. Covenant embraces his part in the Land. Just excellent.
2) The Power That Preserves - A sorrowful book as the Land seems at its end. Powerful.
3) Fatal Revenant - "Talk's cheap, asshole." SD has finally gotten unrusty. Just plain good stuff.
4) The Illearth War - Elena. Hile Troy. The Blood of the Earth. The Breaking of the Law. Wow.
5) White Gold Wielder - The satisfying end to the Second Chronicles. Vain's purpose is revealed. Covenant makes the right choice. And the Land is safe.
6) Lord Foul's Bane - Reread the first few chapters... they are absolutely brilliant! I admit, I didn't like the book at first. Somehow I picked up TIW and then I fell in love with the series. But the foundation that was laid in LFB is what makes this series memorable.
7) The One Tree - I'll admit: this book is frustrating as it gets nothing done (in terms of plot), but it contains some of the most beautiful sequences in the series. The death of Hergrom at the hands of the Sandgorgon still chokes me up.
8 ) The Runes of the Earth - Well, to be honest, it felt like SD was a little rusty with the Land. It meandered endlessly, and the teaser of Thomas Covenant at the end: just plain hokey. But some good ideas float around in there: Esmer is absolutely fascinating.
