The interesting piece of information that came out of the previous chapter is when Stave talked about how he had to face the disapproval of his sons along with the rest of the Masters. So when this chapter began, I thought we were going to learn more about Stave's sons, and the most obvious conclusion since the Humbled were now accompanying Linden was that one or more of the Humbled were sons of Stave. However, SRD didn't reveal that to us, at least not at this time.

...so I have a theory on who Stave's son(s) is.

Clearly it's Galt. Look at his interaction with Stave, especially when he goes at Stave just before they're leaving Revelstone--I think that's when it happens. There's something *way* too personal about that physical attack. That's the most obvious example, but there are more. Of course, this is just me speculating...

I think the text mentioned "sons," not "son." I believe all three of the Humbled will turn out to be Stave's sons. They were all very quick to challenge him in the Close. That might have just been part of holding the station they hold, but I got the feeling that there was something more.

Whoa, killer speculation on Stave!! Applause!!! Correct me if necessary, but Sandgorgons are natural beings of the earth, right? And skurj are not, right? They were made by Kastenessen? I'm just speculating here, too. What would be REALLY cool is if Nom was someone's father. Wowzer!!! Now I'm not speculating, I'm pushing the boundaries of sanity. I assume they also procreate or there would always only be one of them, right? Pitchwife and the First's future after the 2nd Chrons was so cool. I thank SRD so much for including that. They are my fave characters of all 8 books so far. I made her my avatar for these forums.

I have been assuming the Humbled are Stave's kids too.

Kastenesses was Appointed to keep the skurj away from... the earth? Or confined to the north? Anyway, he was keeping them away, he didn't make them.

The chapter Sons was fun to read, but it seemed more to me like a classic Three Stooges pie-fight. Things being hurled in every which direction. For sheer power, nothing I've read in a while matched the chapters Melenkurion Skyweir and Transformations for gripping emotional power. I was drained after reading those chapters.

Definitely one of the most epic battles in regards to "WHOA" factor, rather than emotional weight.

I mean man, near the end of that battle I was half expecting Lord Foul to come riding in on Fire-Lions as Elohim materialized out of nowhere to start picking random fist fights.

Ya know Sea, I'm with you on this one. They're certainly very powerful, but they just don't do it for me. Still I'm glad they showed up.

After reading it I tried to sort out who was actually fighting against who, and I still don't quite get it all. It was like a mad pie-fight... the Harrow, ur-viles, Esmer and Roger all fighting each other like in one of those Battle Royals...

Why is this chapter entitled "Sons?"

Good question... it doesn't really seem to relate.

As to Stave's sons, I started celebrating when I saw the title "Sons" because I'd also been speculating they were the Humbled... so of course SRD hasn't said another word about it. I agree that if it were all 3 Humbled it would seem a bit too... soap-opera-ish.

There are a couple of obvious reasons - Roger shows up, and we have Anele still hanging around, and Esmer makes another appearance. But we already knew about them.

I don't think that there's more to the name "Sons" than that. In a way, that whole giant battle happened because of sons.

I agree, Anele is reading the Runes of The Earth every time he touches stone. Eventually, IMHO, he will follow Linden to Kiril Threndor where he will read "The One Stone" and ...well, who knows after that...

I can only see one of the Humbled being Stave's son. Which one before the battle with the skruj was out scouting? Stave seems to have alot of confidence with that one. It could be that one.

I did not get any impression that Stave was old enough, or the Humbled young enough, for the former to be the father of the latter.

I agree it would add another layer of complexity to the way Stave had been rejected by the Haruchai, though.

.... then again, there was that VERY VERY ODD blurb in Runes that the Haruchai are longer lived than other folk. Hmmm....
