Christian Bale (loved him in Batman Begins)? Thoughts?

I think GO's past it, whereas someone like Christian Bale is perfect.

Check out his performance in The Machinist. If you want to see gaunt, you've got it right there.

I don't have a pre-conceived notion of what Bale is yet...

With an actor like Harrison, however, you've seen him in so many movies that he is locked-in in your mind as to how he will act. Or there are those 1-off movies like GO has done (5th element) where no matter what else he has done, you picture that movie when you think of him.

Bale differs in that the time we have seen him on the big screen, he's played goodies (batman), baddies (american psycho) and ambiguous characters (the machinist, the prestige) - but I'm not locked into how I think he will act. Quite frankly most of his performances have surprised me. He changes physically too. He's been buffed up in movies, and then rake thin in others.

a thought occured to me last tuesday: would hugh laurie make a good covenant? his face seems to work; although its not my mind's covenant. and I'm sure covenant will fit him like a glove after being House for so long. only problem is his depression and his unwillingness to work during the more terrible fits.

Covenant would be one of the hardest characters to cast. I agree with those who have nominated Hugh Laurie. This:

Although looking at Hugh Laurie now, I could definitely see him as TC. Even though I hate House.

I can accept all that, and should've posted more clearly. I didn't mean that *House* was TC. It's Hugh Laurie playing a part, which is not Covenant, and we shouldn't expect he would be. However, based on the little I've seen it appears that he'd be able to play TC well.

BTW, TC is rather selfish for (at least) two books

My vote still goes to Daniel Day-Lewis. Lean, can look haggard, a damn good actor.

The only trouble with all these guys is that by the time any movie could be in the making they will only be good to play Covenant's grandfather...

Well, we'll have no problem finding someone to play the Creator then, will we?
