10 Best Songs/Tunes/Etc

Post by Holsety »

I started with 5, decided that was too little, so just do a top ten.

For mine, I only allowed myself 3 spots from FF6. If I hadn't I'd probably have 6 or 7 from there. I also didn't use "Balance is Restored" from FF6 because it covers all the character themes, and so it's like cheating even though it's my favorite.

I also decided that remixes didn't count, which is why the Tail Cave remix from Link's Awakening isn't on here.

Finally, songs from Guitar Hero, the songs on the radio of GTA, and such which were originally from somewhere else don't count.
1: Phantom Train (FF6)
2: Slam Shuffle (FF6)
3: On Black Wings (Fire Emblem 9)
4: Shadow's Theme (FF6)
5: Bike Song (Earthbound)
6: The music when you fight elmdor on the roof (final Fantasy Tactics). Don't know the names of any tracks from that game.
7: The Intro Movie Music from MGS3 that sounds like James Bond.
8: Rock is Sponge (Rez)
9: Cne of the terran themes from Starcraft. Don't know the name, it always makes me excited and saying "aah yeah that's the stuff" whenever I use stim packs (which is as much as possible).
10: The Oracle (Secret of Mana)

Hardest was choosing The Oracle over two other really good Secret of Mana tracks.

Ain't it the truth!

I've never really thought of a list of favorite video game tunes. Four come to mind:

1) Coin Song - Final Fantasy VI
2) End music - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
3) Wind Scene - Chrono Trigger
4) Main Theme of Final Fantasy IV

2) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
3) Mega Man 2
4) Final Fantasy 6
5) Warcraft II

In no particular order:

Aerith's Theme from FFVII. First thing I learned to play on guitar, and the only guitar music I have ever been observed to rock out to while playing it.

Title Screen Theme from FFIV.

One Winged Angel from FFVII.

Corbenik's Fight Music from .hack//QUARANTINE.

I can't remember the name of it, but the song of the German Version of the Epitaph of Twilight being sung, also from the .hack series.

Fight Music from FFIV.

Super Mario Theme.

The Version of Ziggy Stardust on Guitar Hero 1, which I like better than the Original and the Bauhaus versions, for many reasons. Partially because of the solo/repeat of first chorus.

Flashman Stage Music, Megaman II.

Doctor Wily Stage 1 Music (I believe), Megaman II.

Some of the Halo music is very good. I love the creepy track that accompanies the arrival of the Flood and the Halo 3 version of the signature theme is the best version yet.

A. Because proper tea is theft.

I've generally really liked the music to FF games, but to go back to the games that really wowed me as a kid, I'm shooting for oldskool. Yo.

1. Tunnels of Doom main music, to which there is a stripped down version whenever you ascend or descend.

2. Forbidden Forest - Victory song with the victory dance.

3. Forbidden Forest - Music for the first couple stages.

4. Ultima III - Exodus - Main screen music.

5. M.U.L.E. - seems like the game either had the regular song, or no music at all, if memory serves correctly. Funky little theme.

AAH Chrono Cross. I feel really guilty I didn't put any in there. Ya, that's pretty close to FF6's score for me now that I think of it.

And SOTN's music is really good, but I can't remember that many specific songs to put on mah "list".

The Clock tower theme, Olrox's Quarters, the Theme that plays when you fight Richter, the Colloseum. It's al golden! One of the most beautiful games ever made.

I also forgot to mention DQVIII! The fully orchestrated (by the Tokyo symphony orchestra no less) score gives the game a grandeur that few games approach.

Final Battle with Symour(FF10)

I am sure there are others.

Going with scores, my favorites are:

1. Chrono Cross
2. Chrono Trigger
3. Final Fantasy 8
4. Final Fantasy 6
5. Xenogears

And the best song of all time is "Time's Scar" from Chrono Cross, by far.-jay

Ah, since we're doing overall scores too:
1: Final Fantasy VI
2: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
3: Chrono Cross
4: Earthbound
5: Final Fantasy Tactics

In terms of average goodness PoR is probably my favorite - I can't think of a single song from the OST that I'll skip when I listen to it (not counting the rips of the audio from the cgs, but those aren't part of the real soundtrack anyway). But FF6 has my favorite tracks overall.

"Against the Black Knight" probably deserves a place on my top 10 now that I think about it but I'm too lazy to keep changing stuff.

Rez has a nice sound track but it doesn't have enough songs for me to count it.

As a side note, anyone have a worst soundtrack they can think of? I would go with Final fantasy tactics advance, but that's probably just because I was disappointed with that game in general.

Oooooooooooooo....I don't think it's breaking the rules to include Umm Jammer Lammy and the Parappa the Rapper songs, is it? If not, the song with the pizza place on fire from Umm Jammer Lammy and the plane and the tree cutting are my favorites. I guess the learning to drive sequence, the frog and the bathroom sequence are my favorites from the first Parappa. Strangely enough, I can't remember any of the songs in Parappa 2. I can barely remember the game.

Final Fantasy 7 & 8 have some good tunes. I don't think any boss fight music will ever beat 'Those Who Fight Further' from FF7.

The theme to Silent Hill 1 is great, and the in-game music, while not particularly striking, is very atmospheric.

Also, I've always had a fondness for the music from the early Sonic games.

No, definitley not breaking the rules...

and I don't remember anything from parappa 2 either. I remember something where he gets really big for some reason or something...

Bathroom sequence is my favorite from that game.

I prefer Force your Way (ff8 boss music) Final Fantasy 8 has my favorite soundtrack of all the PS FFs, and it's the only soundtrack I ever bought. Very Prog-Rock ELPish stuff.

Have any of you heard of the Black Mages? It's a metel group made up of square employees (Nobou is on Keyboards) who play FF music.

Their version of the Jenova theme is awesome too! (actually all of it is :))

Definitely a rocking soundtrack that's both goth rock and classical. Has some killer riffs. Don't slay vampires without it!

Yes, I've heard some stuff by the Black Mages. I do really like their rendition of 'Force Your Way', but I still prefer 'Those Who Fight Further' overall (though I do like the bit of 'Force Your Way' that comes after the dodgy keyboard solo - very stirring 8) )
