Ozzy's best guitarist

Post by Cail »

Ladies and germs, may I present "Crazy Train".

Randy Rhodes

Brad Gillis

Jake E. Lee

Zakk Wylde

Yes, that is Brad Gillis from Night Ranger, he replaced Randy on the '82 tour and appears on the Speak of the Devil album.

Randy really sounds good on his clip. I credit the guitar, there's nothing like a chunky Les Paul. As much as I love the Charvels that Brad and Jake play, they just can't compare to that tone. Brad, given the circumstances, sounds much better than I expected him to. Jake tears it up, and I really like his fills. Zakk sounds like he belongs in a high school Ozzy tribute band.

I give the nod (slightly) to Jake, followed by Randy, then Brad, and since I can't rate him 10th, Zakk.

Randy, by far. Not because he died, but because he truly had a presence on the guitar that was felt. His playing had personality, a defining characteristic that as soon as you hear it, you know it's Randy. IMO, putting Zakk Wylde in the same poll as Randy is blasphemy. But that's cause I can't stand him as a musician or as a person.
