Problem is, this has nothing to do with taste... or quality.
Can't Say Carson is a bad number 1 honestly.

Oh absolutely. But I'd say that the top 3 are spot-on. I think I'd put Bob Newhart at #4.
And shouldn't Groucho Marx be on the list somewhere?

No, I don't believe it is. I loathe Rosanne, but there's no question that she was a TV icon for a decade, and deserves a high spot on the list.

True, but "You Bet Your Life" was pretty big in its day.Cagliostro wrote:I don't think people tend to think of him on the television as much. He's more of a movie icon.Cail wrote: And shouldn't Groucho Marx be on the list somewhere?

I get your point, but the stooges have been shown on TV at least as long as Lucy has. Longevity is a trademark of the television icon, and by that argument they should be on this list.Menolly wrote:What I mean was that the Stooges shorts weren't made for t.v., but recycled on it. Whereas Rosie had her own t.v. talk show and was on others made specifically for t.v.
Being resurrected from Hollywood's scrap pile as endless repeats does not lessen the legend.

But Lucy made shows specifically for television.
You could claim the same about Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, etc. The Stooges were shown longer and more often in syndication, but they were all not originally for television.
If they have made even one orginal season of shows for broadcast on t.v. then I would say then a huge error was made. But I don't think they ever did.
I may be wrong as I am not a huge fan though.

Most women don't like or get the Stooges anyway, so that's understandable-I believe one "era" of the 3 Stooges was made specifically for TV with Joey Besser--or whoever the funky "Curly" replacement was. Laurel and Hardy may have had bits in syndication, but those were clips from their movies and didn't run that long. The Abbott and Costello Show was made for TV and without it I don't think they could have funded the "A & C meet..." movies, great show. I hope that George Burns and Jack Benny made it because they belong there with Gleason, Skelton, Kovacs and Groucho for unforgetable personalities.
fall far and well Pilots!
