Well, if we're gonna start getting back things that are broken, I'd like to start getting back the pieces of my broken heart.Auleliel wrote:I kinda felt like I was being given back something broken too.Emotional Leper wrote:SRD is Lord Foul?!?Cail wrote:There was one spot that really shone for me. Thank, thank you. I'll be here all week, crying, in the corner, listening to the Cure, and cutting myself. 'cause there's nothing else to do when you're listening to the Cure.

You are crazy. But you are right about the Cure.

I defy anyone to retain their composure when a misty-eyed emo whines that they cut themselves to let the pain out.
When I stopped laughing, I admonished the poor fool to go back to Hot Topic and buy himself another Nightmare Before Christmas T-shirt.
Perhaps someday I can be persuaded to post a photo of my punk rock days. I pwn emo.

I'm not quite sure what Punk Rock looks like anymore. Every time I dress up punk, I get called Grunge, and whenever I dress up in clothes from Hot Topic that celebrate 30 years of PUNK, I get called emo.Cail wrote:And that's why any guy worth his salt goes through a punk rock phase.Emotional Leper wrote:Punk: "If you act like a punk to pick up chicks, the sex is wild and might involve an ER trip, if you do everything right. I'd be hard pressed to define punk anymore. I know the people I used to hang with were definitely not emo, grunge, or goth. But I'm also pretty sure that if I attempted to recreate that look now (aside from the fact that there's not a whole lot "punk" about being a 39 year old father from the suburbs), I'd probably be called gothic or emo.
Which is pretty silly, because other than my boots and the odd Ramones t-shirt, I rarely wore any black, and I was never ever a nail-painter.

Held out for a Christmas gift from some people who should have gotten the hint, had to pay for it myself today...
I did not run out to buy Fatal Revenant because of the slow start in Runes and that books perspective; Linden Avery.
Linden is the Yoko of of the land..IMHO.

" a universe with no edge in space, no begining or end in time"
Fatal Revenant. (OMG Spoilers!).
It's still SRD, which means it's still good. . .right? This isn't seven years of fangirliness talking? (I actually *did* come face-to-face with SRD in Madison--then I turned red and couldn't speak). I've read every single book, short story, essay, and poem he's published that's readily available to the public--more than once. His writing, as Gandalf's art with fireworks in the Lord of the Rings, only improves with age: no one should quibble when I say that FR is well-written.
Now that my credibility is established: Donaldson *himself* said that this would be the most challenging thing he'd ever written; he says on an almost weekly basis in the GI that he feels inadequate to the task of writing the 3rd Chrons. (I also read the GI more diligently than I've ever read the Bible--it's a sickness.) Now, I hate Linden about as much as it's possible to hate a fictional character, not because she isn't a brilliant creation, but because she isn't a brilliant *person*: the reason Donaldson's using her perspective so much in the 3rd Chrons is because (from what I glean from the GI) the most important part of the *story* is happening with her.
Ah, blah: to sum up what is becoming a rant: I don't think Donaldson gave us back "something broken". I think the Last Chrons were broken to begin with, and by the end, through TC's intervention, SRD'll fix everything. After all, the Last Chrons is supposed to be unifying, right?
I am exceedingly verbose tonight. I apologize. It probably comes from spending time with relatives who don't even know who Donaldson *is* (hell, some don't even know who *Tolkien* is). Thank the Creator; I'm not alone in the world.

The above is a good post..
The problem with writing a 3rd Covenant chronicles is essentially the end of the 2nd Chrons..
Linden is't a wonderful Character - she is too selfish and makes many terrible decisions.. I admire the healing she can do, but more often than not she's too selfish to be polite. I am not going to join Thoolah though.. I accept her for her weaknesses because I also am full of them..
If you want to read a story with flawless heroes who never die thesde Chronichles aren't going to please you. But we all know that.
The way the story is going is the only way it Can go - even in fantasy worlds we can't easily 'wish' our old heroes to appear.. It takes time and effort and who knows what conequences will occur because of it..
