White Gold Wielder record album

Post by Sandgorgon »

I am curious as to how many of you know about and/or have a record album that was issued by the Science Fiction Book Club of Donaldson reading an excerpt from White Gold Wielder. Is it a very collectible item? And if so what is it currently going for?

Sandgorgon! Welcome.
No, I've not heard of it, and that surprises me greatly.
Have you any more info?

Collector's item? Naw. I'll give you $1 for it. Okay $2. And I'll throw in the shipping costs. But you can just send it bulk mail, since it's not good for anything but a coaster.

Send it whenever you get the chance.

.
.
.

Did you send it yet?

.
.
.

Is it in the mail???

.
.
.

When can I have it?! I have to have it!!!

.
.
.

What's your address? I'm coming over to get it. Better not trust it to normal mail - those postmen (postpersons?) can be a bit clumsy.

.
.
.

Okay. I've been knocking at your door for an hour now. Where are you? I'll just sit here and read the paper until you get back...

.
.
.

But really - I've never heard of it. So I'd assume that it's a bit on the collectors item side of things. **I** would certainly like to have it. :-) Maybe we should start a new gallery with pictures of SRD collectables. I have a bookmark from the reissue of the first two trilogies, a poster advertising the Gap novels in the UK, a hardcover version of the Atlas of the Land, etc. It'd be fun to see what others have dug up.

Maybe if you want to find out how much it would be worth, you can put it up for sale on eBay. Set the reserve at something like $500 (which I would guess is higher than anyone would want to pay). Then you can see how high the bidding would go for, without really selling it (and if you can get $500 for it, woohoo!!!). It would cost you a few bucks or so to post that on eBay, I think, but it might be worth it to find out how much people would pay for it. (look into those eBay fees to be sure - I could be remembering the fee schedule incorrectly)

With my southern accent, the only part I could read would be the one-armed trucker - or with my Southern Baptist upbringing, I could also read the evangelist's lines. Anyways, sounds like fun!

I think it would be cool to do some samples to get an idea what it would sound like. I produce my own music, so sitting down to read and record a chapter would be interesting. If there was somewhere on the Watch to upload an mp3 I could share whatever I come up wiith. Hmmmm.... :D

I've been a member of the SF Book Club since 1971, and I don't recall this recording, either. Seems like something I would have jumped all over with both feet when it was first advertised. I have the original edition of Gilden Fire and the original hardcover of the Atlas of the Land to go with my Book Club editions of the first Covenant trilogy.

Perhaps it's apochryphal, like Black Borders for McGee, the supposedly "lost" final Travis McGee novel by John D. MacDonald?

I have never heard of this recording of SRD reading. As all above, I also want to have this recording... Mine? (sorry, just saw Finding Nemo...)

Have anyone of you seen the strange (web-?)series with some people in a big bed reading and acting parts of the chrons? From the little I have seen, they usually deliberately missunderstand everything...

Fantasy Bedtime Hour?

It's funny, but I can't tell if they actually like the book, or are really making fun of it. :?

Actually I am quite surprised by the simple fact that no one appears to be aware of this recording 8O . I also have (as others have indicated) the "Atlas Of the Land" by Fowler and "Gilden-Fire", both of which came through the SFBC. Anyway, I will locate the record -- it is somewhere in my basement -- and will scan the front and back of the jacket and the album itself, and whoever would like to see them I will gladly e-mail them as attachments; there does not appear to be anywhere to store files on this web site.

Give me a couple days for this.

Sandgorgon, You can put them in the art gallery, or forum pics.
Just go to the album under the Kevinswatch banner. I'm really looking forward to seeing this! :)

Fantasy Bedtime Hour cracks me up, but I don't think the two girls are big fans. I'm kind of a dork like this, but I e-mailed the site to ask how they came up with the show, and they said one of them started reading it and got the idea.

Fortunately I was able to locate the album rather easily :D . I scanned the front and back of the disk itself, along with the back of the jacket that shows the recording information. The entire jacket is too large to scan; I would have to patch the images together. Perhaps down the road if more time allows.

I uploaded all three images into the Album section of this web site, and named the files with the following skeleton: "WGW Album ...."

Enjoy :P

Why don't you record this to a MP3 file?
