Member Names are Spoilers, too.
We have a lot of new members who have taken names that are spoilers for the Final Chronicles, and then posting in general threads.
That doesn't really work well towards our policy of trying to spare those who haven't, couldn't, or wouldn't read the Final Chonicles yet.
I think this will require some Admin capability to correct, should someone think it fit to do so.

I think that names by themselves are all right. Sort of like Murrin said, someone who hasn't read the Last Chronicles wouldn't even know what something like "Esmer" was referring to.
Now, something like "In_FR_LordFoulIsLindensFatherOMG" on the other hand... Probably not all right. Heh.
However, Way, if you have seen any specific usernames that you feel cross the line, please PM me about it, and I'll see what I can do.-jay

I think Wayfriend has a point, but I also think it's probably not too big an issue.
This happened when Runes came out and I felt the same as Wayfriend when I saw names here that I really didn't want to see since I hadn't read the book yet...but I let it drop because I didn't want to be accused of overreacting.

Did you guys ever read the index at the back of the books the first time you read through? I did. I can't say the usernames are any more of a spoiler than they were (and I swear my first Chronicles paperbacks had Vain listed). They're just names; they don't really tell you anything.
Besides, it's kind of like saying Shakespeare spoiled Macbeth by putting the dramatis personæ at the very front of the play (almost all of them die at the end, btw

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I usually don't do it until I've read the book. But the important thing about spoilers is that people should decide for themselves. Having them appear before you, unasked, is different from choosing to read them. And if you read the index, you've chosen to.Syl wrote:Did you guys ever read the index at the back of the books the first time you read through?

Is there anyone who - having read the runes of the earth - did NOT look in the glosary of Fatal Revenant to see if the meaning of the word Skurj had changed????
I didn't. But then again I locked the dust-jacket away after having read the first ten lines.
