Also, rumor has it that if you know anyone in Manhattan, that the Nintendo store gets a new delivery of Wii's every weekday around noon.
I do now.

Thanks!

YVW, I hope it helps.

Also, for anyone interested, toysrus.com is currently offering Wii games at buy 2 get the 3rd free. The home page also says free shipping on select toy offers of $49 or more, but I haven't checked if that applies to video games yet. Perhaps there's a coupon code for free shipping somewhere as well.

I sucked it up and bought one on Ebay on Monday, it was delivered today. I paid a $100 premium to have it shipped to my door and to not have to deal with all the driving around and waiting in lines and crowds.

Well......

A friend of mine thought I was an idiot and got up at 4am this morning to hit the stores and get one. 8 hours later, still no Wii. A quick perusal of Ebay 5 minutes ago, and Wii setups like the one I got (the console, Wii Play, extra controller) are now $200 more than I paid Monday.

Rumors abound that GameStop will be issuing pre-paid rainchecks for Wii consoles today and tomorrow, so those who wish to gift someone with a Wii for Chr-stmas will have something to put under the tree or in a stocking.

They intend to be able to redeem the rain checks by late January.

I would've used eBay for a Wii if:

a) I HAD to have it for Xmas.
b) I wasn't a poor college student.

But anyway. Here's my sad tale:

I GOT A WII!!!! :ct19: :letsparty:

My grandfather came back this morning from a heart checkup (or so he said). As I was brushing my teeth, he came downstairs, and said portentously, "Hey. It's all been taken care of." I asked him if it was about the Wii, and he just smiled knowingly and repeated "it's been taken care of." Ah!! I don't know how he did it, but I'm feeling damn lucky!

I won't know all the details till Xmas, but my grandfather was astronomically lucky.

I believe he got it at Wal-Mart. My grandmother was doing some snooping, and she pretty much stumbled on the fact that they had a shipment and were about to sell it. My grandfather was getting his heart checkup at 9:00 AM, and she must've called him on his car phone. He bolted for Wal-Mart. They gave him a number and he waited in line. It just so happened that he got the last console. Had he been one number behind, no dice!

To add to the madness: a man offered my grandfather $1000 for the system. He even started pulling out the bills to show him.

I received a bunch of clothes for presents--until my grandfather walked down the hall and came back with a hefty package. :D I knew what it was, of course, but I was thunderstruck just to know he'd even got it.

Speaking of that: my grandmother had been out early, dropping someone off for work. She had heard the night before at Circuit City that they'd get a new shipment, so she got in line around 7:00 AM, and when my grandfather finished his heart checkup, he took her place in the freezing cold. Right before opening, they gave out tickets to the first 24 people, of which my grandfather was 20. He would have been 24, had two families in front of him been allowed to more than one Wii.

Circuit City allowed you to leave any time and claim the Wii. Nobody else could buy it if they didn't have a ticket. Furthermore, the tickets were actual laminated tickets--not slips of paper with a number written in marker, like at Wal-Mart. It was definitely more organized. And indeed, one man did pull up and offer $1,000 to anybody for their ticket.

As far as the system itself: it's small, easy to set up, and the remote is quite responsive. Wii Sports is nice (especially the tennis game), but it can't hold a candle to Mario Galaxy, which is the most fun I've had with a Mario game since Super Mario 64.

I'm looking very forward to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. And you just know they'll make a new Zelda for the Wii.

Ah...so it was at Circuit City.
Thanks for the info, LF.

Enjoy it!

Beorn received the contents of the Psyclone Essentials Wii Essentials Starter Kit in his stocking today. This includes a Wii Sensor Bar (supposedly allows you to play up to 25' away, but as I have no idea what the range of the Wiimote is usually...), (2) rechargeable batteries for the Wiimote, a dual charge cable, a Wii component cable, attachments for the Wiimote that consist of a tennis racket, golf club, baseball bat, and racing wheel to use with the Wii Play and Wii Sports games, and a couple of extra wrist straps and Wiimote skins.

He also received Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, which interested him more than Mario Galaxy. Besides, apparently FIL got him Mario Galaxy for the PS3 he's bringing. We'll see if Beorn shows any interest in it, and if so, perhaps the Wii version will be a birthday gift.

FIL decided to not come up until tomorrow (after telling us last night he wasn't coming up at all), so the rest of the gifts are on hold until then. I'll give a report on GHIII for the Wii at that time.

Well, Beorn has discovered delayed gratification can be worth the wait. FIL finally arrived, and although Hyperception is at work we went ahead and opened gifts (with Hyperception's permission). I now have a very happy teen on my hands, as his Poppie brought him the Playstation 3 and the new Sonic the Hedgehog game for it, which he has been drooling over for months...

And I was mistaken, the Super Mario Galaxy FIL brought is for the Wii. So far, Beorn has shown no interest, but Hyperception and I will check it out, and maybe once he sees it Beorn will give it a try.

GHIII will wait until Sunday, when Hyperception is off work to test it out for us first.

...update...

FIL insisted Beorn at least try Super Mario Galaxy before he leaves tomorrow.

heheheh

We have an unexpected hit.

I can't imagine someone liking that Olympics game more than an instant classic like Mario Galaxy. Kids these days!

Hey, congrats LF! Yah, I have to get Mario Galaxy soon. BUT!... does anyone know if there is a Guitar Hero version for Wii?!!!
Played it for the first time (on PS2) and went absolutely nuts! I'm terrible at it, but just had sooo much fun!

Yes, there is Usivius.
Beorn received GHIII for the Wii as well.
We haven't opened it yet though.
Probably on Sunday...
