I put Batty and MagickMaker in charge of planning the New Year's festivities, so the gods alone know what we'll be doing.

Actually, Batty and I hit the party store yesterday for champagne-shaped poppers (the kind that send out little paper streamers) and hats (we settled on "Happy New Year" deely-bobbers; Batty intends to wear hers again at school for Viking Day). We'll watch the ball drop via Internet, I guess, and terrify the cats, and eat up the remainder of the Christmas cookies. I can't wait!

And I assume the human convention of just breaking down and disassembling at the molecular and atom levels is somehow preferable?

The wife and I are hosting our annual New Years Party. We will have much conversation, food and drink, play a 2007 trivia contest (which I have yet to devise...), and enjoy party games and Wii and PS2 as the mood strikes, until we watch the ball drop on TV. After midnight, sometimes we party on, sometimes we call it a night, and we always dare each other to re-create our first Party's spontaneous drunken semi-naked tub-singing event, which we still talk about.

Well I'm goping to be the First Watcher in North America to ring in the New Year (although the Aussies already had it...and the Brits are slowly closing in)

I won't be online (or home) at midnight my time...but Happy New Year to everyone...I hope this years is really great..and I'm looking foreward to Luci and Sea comming to visit me

Cov, I very much sympathize with you for having to put up with people you don't like, but I still applaud you for taking on the designated driver role.

As for me, I'll be putting together a new PC for myself tonight. Just got the parts today. I hope to have it up and running by the time midnight strikes.

The 2008 Post of the Year

I have a different perspective of New Years' and I've not spoken of it here before. It's a great time to party for most and that's well and good, I sometimes go to a less busy place and enjoy the mellow and earnest wishes of a true friend saying happy new year.

For me it's a time for retrospection, and introspection. My Dad died December 31st 1977.

30 years today... wow. He died in the afternoon, succumbing to a stroke the day previous. I still love and miss him. I had just turned 18 a few weeks before. I know he'd be proud to see the man I've become. And I wish he could know my children, and grandchildren. I don't think he could contain himself. He'd surely explode with love and joy.

I had always offered to work on this evening when my job dictated availability, (offer always accepted!)

This year I sit at home, thinking of the years that have been,the fishing trips, Forbes Field, and more touching private moments. I"m here with my lovely Wife of 28 years, who cries more than I when we toast the New Years and my Father.
