New Gilden Fire Printing?

Post by JD »

I wonder if it would be possible to get Del Ray or whoever SRD uses as a new publisher to do a re-printing of Gilden Fire since its no longer in print?

When the man with a 45 meets the man with a rifle, you said the man with a pistol is a dead man. Let's see if it's true.

Personally, I would really like to see a reissue of The Illearth War with Gilden-Fire included. Where it should have been in the first place... :)

I don't expect it would take a lot of editing to fit Gilden Fire back into TIW, but I think it would really spoil the pacing of the book. I've always thought that TIW was the one book in the Chronicles where SRD got the pace bang on.

And Dr Banner is right, there are plenty of copies kicking around on eBay. I think mine cost me less than a fiver.

Last time I checked, there were a bunch of them on Amazon, too, and not too pricey, either. :)

I don't think it would spoil the pace at all. The reason it was left out is because the POV character wasn't Covenant or Troy, hence dispelling the "dream" theory. It was told from Korik's POV and wasn't a "tale" such as "Tull's Tale" or "Runnik's Tale". As far as pacing goes...I think it would have added to the depth of the pace.

And as far as the "dream" theory goes...it was pretty much disregarded in TPTP when we go to Revelstone even before Covenant is summoned. So, I really don't see any problem at all with putting Gilden-Fire back where it belongs. :)

I'd love to read about the Unfettered one who could read dreams and told TC that he dreamt the truth. TC goes to him...and comes back. Here's a part definitely missing, but I guess it went after first rewrite...

Oh, I have always wanted to know what was said at that meeting. I wonder if Donaldson actually wrote it, but then it was edited out? If he did, I wanna read it!! :)

It would be great to read them as SRD would put them back together now, if he had creative control.

I wonder if some of the cut parts are in the Kent State collection.

I'm sure they are. I think Kent State has the original manuscripts.
