White Gold
I recently got married to my GF of 3 years... it was quite impulsive, we rushed to buy the rings... Guess what...
White gold.
Although she has the diamond encrusted bridal set, I have the plain white gold band. And a scraggly beard to go with it.
If I lose two fingers and start seeing an old beggar hanging around our place I'm going to be very concerned.

When I got married, my ring was white gold, but hers was regular gold, in case A) the marriage didn't work out, and B) we found ourselves in the Land.

Hey Floridians... didn't want to spam the Watch with a whole thread dedicated to this little idea, so I thought I'd just derail you here for a second...
My FiL and his new wife have purchased a house near the beach in Pensacola, and will be retiring and moving down there as soon as they can find a buyer for their house in Indianapolis.
So... at some point this year, I expect to get a trip down to the area. I know Florida is a big state, but if I let you know in advance, maybe some of us can meet and have dinner somewhere and geek out on our shared SRD-ness? Just an idea.
Who knows, if we get enough interested people, maybe we could convince danlo to kidnap the man himself and bring him over?

That is too funny... not a bad idea either. That's awesome that you converted! It gives me hope. I lived in Tally for a year as a kid, but never was really a 'Nole, at least not in a way that seems real in comparison to my 'Gator-ness'. When we moved to Hogtown about a year and a half later, everything changed. People just don't understand: there is NOTHING like being a Gator!Menolly wrote:
Are you going to get one of those half and half "a house divided" license plates?
...btw...I was a 'nole myself (Music Education major with voice as my instrument)...I converted about two and a half years after I went to work for UAA...
She is adamant about not converting though. Maybe I can get her to a game or something... You have to start somewhere.

That's awesome Dukkha! I'm right there in Pensacola, although Mennolly is far, far away in Gainesville... That would be cool to have dinner sometime, PM me when you get settled. -exDukkhaWaynhim wrote:Hey Floridians... didn't want to spam the Watch with a whole thread dedicated to this little idea, so I thought I'd just derail you here for a second...

Heh. I grew up in Pensacola and attended the University of West Florida. I believe my advisor is now running a theatre company in town.

Pensacola is a haul from Gator Town, and even further for the Tampa and Daytona Beach contigent. But if there is a way to make it into an overnight instead of just dinner or some such, perhaps something could be arranged.exnihilo wrote:That's awesome Dukkha! Now...if everyone wanted to proclaim Gator Town the "mid-way point," (although I know it's not) and come here, I'll be happy to try and arrange accomodations and what knot here...
...mayhaps we could even convince a certain washed out orange Tennessee Vol to join us...

It won't be easy.
Keep in mind I had already lived in Gator Town for a year before I got the job at UAA. We were living in married student housing since Hyperception was a full time student. I got a job with UAA (the athletic association) in the Administrative Offices on the same hallway as the Football Offices (this was during Coach Spurrier's final two years) inside the Swamp. As an employee, a fringe benefit was season tickets on the north end 10 yard line for all home games, and a pair of tickets to the FL/GA game in Jacksonville, and it still took two and a half years for me to convert.
What did it was the FSU player caught shop lifting at Dillards, and the non-punishment he received. While that went on, I saw first hand how hard the UF Compliance department was really attempting to quash any underhandedness that may have been going on on UF's part. I admit, the Gators are not pristine in that matter, but I saw the difference between the attittude of the two head football coaches, and the schools themselves.
So, athleticism aside. I converted.

Pensacola is almost as far away from me in Florida as anyone could be - the only way I could be farther away would be if I moved to the Keys.DukkhaWaynhim wrote:Hey Floridians... didn't want to spam the Watch with a whole thread dedicated to this little idea, so I thought I'd just derail you here for a second...

It was a nice thought, though.

believe there was another thread where people said they also had a White Gold ring.
I myself have a College Ring made from that material.
It was after I read LFB that I bought my class ring.
It's 14K White Gold. My birthstone is a Ruby
(which is a faceted simulated gem)
So I have a white gold ring with an earthblood stone set into..
I wield both the Wild Magic and the Earthpower.
There are 5 composites(Altas group) for a White Gold Ring.
18 K has 3:
Soft White..... 75%-Gold 25%-Palladium
Hard White.... 75%-Gold 3.7%-Copper 16.3-Nickel 5%-Zinc
Alt. White...... 75%-Gold 10% Palladium 10%-Nickel 5%-Zinc
14K is ...........58.5%-Gold 22.5%-Copper 12%-Nickel 5%-Zinc
10K is ...........41.7%-Gold 33%-Copper 17%-Nickel 8.3%-Zinc
This is just one set of standards. There are more variats around the world.

What's this silver looking ring doing on my finger?

MsMary, how could I ever forget you? We need to get together again next time I'm in Fort Lauderdale. I'm getting a hankering for Rascal House...MsMary wrote:

But as you yourself say above, where you're at is just so far I couldn't picture you making the drive to Pensacola.

Wouldn't that make her Kasreyn of the Gyre, dAN?dANdeLION wrote:When I got married, my ring was white gold, but hers was regular gold, in case A) the marriage didn't work out, and B) we found ourselves in the Land.

I don't think I'd want to go quite as white as white gold, maybe off-white gold or pale gold if such things exist.
Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

Everyone, thanks again for the congratulations.
I'm not sure which alloy I got, although it was 18k. The interesting thing was that at first my bride wanted platinum or yellow gold, not white, but the sales lady talked her out of platinum and there weren't any yellow bridal sets that we liked. I saw her looking at a white gold bridal set and I knew it was the one. So of course I had to match it with my ring. Funny how that worked out.
