Ewoks: Spawn of Satan or were they cute and cuddly?

Post by aTOMiC »

One of the most devastating things I've ever witnessed was the inclusion of the Ewoks into Return of the Jedi. As a non threatening side note or background character, I would have given them a pass as a cute marketing gimmick. When they rose to the foreground in Jedi and deliberately destroyed my ability to suspend my disbelief I was appalled. Were it not for the "battle" on the moon of Endor I would have ranked Jedi supreme among the first three Star Wars films and possibly greatest of all time.

I'm sorry. I didn't buy it in 1983 and I'm not buying it now.
There is no freaking way an armed, armored storm trooper, will put up his hands in surrender to a band of teddy bears with sharp sticks. They simply don't have any logical way of threatening the troopers. Of course whenever a rebel with a blaster or light sabre is part of the scenery the trooper will invariably crap himself and forget how to fire his weapon. We're all used to that behavior. But even so...

Gotta agree with you there Clear. They completely ruined it for me. They were the only thing that prevented that film from bring one of the best of all time.

Me disagree. Me think that you like stormtroopers because they are shiny metal men like you; it clouds your judgement. Me think you underestimate ewoks power over stormtroopers. Me think that stormtrooper moms wait at store for hours, sometimes days to buy their little stormtrooper kids their own ewok, complete with Certificate Of Authenticity and bio. Me think stormtrooper moms fight in store over ewoks in their little plastic boxes, sometimes even killing other stormtrooper moms. Much devastation and smashing. Me like to smash all puny ewoks meself. But me too busy between writing next journal on nuclear physics and trying to figure out which super villain me dad is. Makes head hurt. Me think me should smash shiny metal man until me head feels better. Takes too long to count to ten.

Well, I must admit it's hard to argue with the doctor's logic. Especially if you want to live long. :screwy:

I think the Ewoks must have been culled from a nightmare Lucas had as a small child. The horror!

Nuts. I should have posted my Ewok article here instead of in Ewoks vs. Jar-Jar. Oh well. Anyway, I agree, TOM C: The Ewoks pretty much sabotaged Jedi.

"Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets."

:P

At least the Ewoks weren't nearly as annoying as Jar Jar in Phantom Menace. Ugh....that alone ruined the movie for me the first time I saw it.

Both.

Is this a trick question?

As God wrote in his memoirs, Ewoks are a yeast infection upon the Star Wars universe.

Yep Ewoks and the recycled Death Star sunk this movie.

Ewoks were great.

If you watched the flick when you were three years old. :-x
