That is why time travel sucks so bad. Time travel gives linear causality a contradictory nature. Things may happen linearly only with respect to an individual's perception or perspective.
Is it possible that Foul is insequent?
Man, I hate time travel. I sure hope SRD can make it work.
Well, the Krill handled a full-on blast of Covenant's wild "black magic", that he didn't dare release directly, filtered it, and pushed it out so purely it zapped the Grim and illuminated through the bedrock of Revelstone.
The stone of the Krill, once awakened, seems sensitive to the various forms of power in its vicinity, whether it is Wild Magic, Illearth Stone, Lord's Lore, or Banefire.
The stone can also "sleep", and it sounds like it must do so after chanelling a great power, though it can be reawakened by another exercize of power.
I would, however, LOVE to know: 1. What caused it to wake up such that Linden found it glowing brightly. 2. What is causing it to glow with a pluse now.

Plus, the Krill didn't wake up the first time until Covenant, in a fit of passion, embedded it into Mhorham's stone table. (And wasn't it totally hidden until either the Staff of Law or the Second Ward gave the New Lords access?)

In the Gradual Interview, Donaldson wrote:John: Stephen, thank you for the excellent Fatal Revenant. I particularly enjoyed The Theomach and the other Insequent. It was also interesting to see characters we had only known through legend. The events of Fatal Revenant brought two questions to mind.
1. If I remember correctly, at the end of White Gold Wielder, the krill was inactive. Sunder had killed Caer Caverel and brought Holian back to life. The Krill was stuck lifeless in the stump that was Hile Troy. This is despite the presence of Thomas Covenant and the White Gold in the Land. Why was the Krill active atain when Linden finds it in Andelaine? My assumption is that it had to refresh, but it seems that Linden put far more power through it bringing Covenant back than Sunder used to bring back Holian and the krill came back to life in a matter of seconds.
2. Why is Linden having so much more trouble using the White Gold now than she did at the end of WGW? In WGW she could do just about anything with the white gold, what she thought happened. Before taking up the ring she had mentioned something about with her health sense guiding her she could cure Covenant's Leprosy. In FR her use and understanding of the ring seems to have been reduced to blunt object status.
Thank you for your consideration.
1) The krill is active when Linden returns to the Land, and has been active for a while, because *Joan* is busy wielding as much wild magic as her frailty permits. She has restored all the power the krill needs (if Linden didn't accomplish the same thing when she healed the Land at the end of WGW).
2) I answered this question in FR. The crucial point is that she's already begun to fade from the Land when she uses both the ring and the Staff at the end of WGW. Her spirit then is capable of exertions which would fry her body if she were entirely physical. Also in WGW she's aided by Covenant's comparative proximity (watching over her), and by having just witnessed wild magic (her health-sense is "in tune" with it, a sensitivity she's naturally lost since then).

The answer was "Joan". Yes, "Joan" was the correct answer.
Ok, I'm going ahead and making this post assuming I'm right about this. (I'm re-reading the entire Chronicles now, and just finished TIW a few days ago. While reading it, I swear that I came across a reference to the One Stone, swear that it was said that the gem of the krill originates from this Stone. I have submitted a question to SRD on the GI about this because I just simply cannot find it. It's not unthinkable that I hallucinated this! Can any one of you confirm or deny this, find it in the text? I am apparently inadequate to this task!!!)
At any rate, if the krill's gem comes from the One Stone, then it is the rock power tool equivalent of the Staff of Law. We know that it managed to handle the power of both the Staff and white gold simultaneously. It's said to be able to handle any power poured into it. So, I'm inferring from this that it is actually more powerful than the Staff.
"White gold graven into every rock..." or whatever the exact wording is. Wouldn't it stand to reason that white gold is more concentratedly graven into the One Stone than any other? And doesn't Anele want to get to such a rock to read it's story? I would bet that he is much more equipped to handle this tool than the Staff.
Obviously, he feels inadequate to the Staff. We may see him take up the krill in AATE, and find a way to use it to handle some of the powers afoot in the Land.
The only reference I can remember about the One Stone (and it's a vague memory) had to do with the orcrest. I think Lena mentions it to Covenant in LFB (when she tells the story of how Atiaran and Trell changed the weather.)
I'm in no way saying you're wrong, dlb, but I just scanned the part in the chapter "Lena" of LFB where Lena is describing Trell and Atiaran's marriage day--when orcrest is first mentioned in the Chronicles--and she doesn't mention it as being a part of the One Stone. She just calls it a "precious and many-powered rock."
I also thought this about the One Stone reference, but rather that it was made when TC was given a piece of this stone in Revelwood in TIW. But again, my searching for it has been thwarted.
Alas, the reference is somewhere, we just need to find it....
AHA, I found it!!! In "Forth to War" in TIW, Tohrm gives TC a piece of orcrest in Mithil Stonedown (not Revelwood as I said above), and says, "it is...a rare piece of the One Rock which is the heart of the Earth."
So, my theory in my previous post is a bit upended by this revelation. But it still does not answer the question of the origin of the krill's gem. However, it has to be related to orcrest, or this One Rock in some way. How could it not be?
The other thing abou the Krill is, well isn't is doing an important job where it is?
Doesn't it help defend Andelain? Maybe it gives more strength to the Wraiths.. I got the impression that it did..
Damn, this bit of the question is possibly in the wrong post, but since TC is meant to know a lot about what's happenning in the Land, do you think he'll allow Linden to take the Krill? Though after you've woken the Worm that's probably about as much damage as you can do, yeah?
And I wouldn't be suprised if the Krill didn't actually come from overseas.. Though that doesn't mean that the OneRock isn't in the Land..
Forgive my death.
It was my flesh that failed you, not my love.
How could the krill have come from overseas? Loric forged it, did he not? Or am I just assuming this? It's very often spoken of as "Loric's krill", which makes me think he made it.
Is this ever said explicityly in any of these books?
