There's a lot of quality films and performances on that list, despite the writer's strike. Maybe the only writers that went on strike are the ones who do soap operas and mindless popcorn flicks.

I'm almost ashamed to say that the only film on the entire list that I have seen is "Sweeney Todd." 8O Guess I better get to renting.

I've seen none on the categories posted here; from the entire ballot I've only seen Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

I'm ashamed to have seen one from the list too (Sweeney Todd); I usually try to guess the probable nominee flicks, and avoid them like the plague.

I just looked at the complete list and I've only seen four of the films.

I saw, Sweeney Todd, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Golden Compass and Transformers. I need to get out more. 8O

Wow, I haven't seen a single one of those movies. :( But I'll root for There Will Be Blood, just because of The Princess Bride! :D

Okay, this clinches it. Must see Juno.

And want to see the new Coen Brothers effort.

I've seen "No Country" and wasn't impressed. I can't see Depp winning for the role as Sweeney Todd. I did see Mortensen in "Eastern Promises" and he was OK but IMO didn't really stand out. The one shoe-in is Javier Bardem from "No Country." He gave an outstanding performance.

According to all the reviews I've read Day-Lewis is a lock for best actor as a misthanphropic oil wildcatter in There Will be Blood-Anderson should win best director, as well.

Julie Christie is a slight favorite for Best Actress.

My boss is a bigger movie fan that I am - he saw "There will be blood" and said it was the WORST movie he's seen in years - boring, no plot, flat acting, etc.

What the..! The only flick I've seen on these lists was "American Gangster" and that was over rated. I normally have seen at least 2 of the best films. And this was almost a record year for me for going to the movies. I am disappointed that Amy Adams didn't get a nom for "Enchanted".
Cowboy: Why you doin' this, Doc?
Doc Holliday: Because Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Cowboy: Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.
Doc Holliday: ... I don't.

I agree that "American Gangster" was overrated.

I saw "There Will be Blood" last night, and as a fomer theatre student..I must say Dlb...your boss is (ehile entitled to his/her opinion) clearly living on a diet of lead and whisky.

Daniel Day Lewis turned in the SINGLE GREATEST performance i have ever borne witness to. As great and as scary as he was in "The Gangs of new york" his portrayal in this movie makes the "Gangs" character look like Charles Nelson Rielly. I was scared shitless! I'll never see its equal. he should win NEXT yeatrs award too.

As far as bst pic: TWBB is a far superior picture than "Atonement" which is just another damned well-time period piece that the industry floats out for the Oscars. Yawn. Juno, though might be able to beat TWBB.

Cate Balanchett will win for her portrayal of Dylan.

Anyone watch the Oscars? Not as fun as it can be. No big surprises. I definitely have to say Diablo Cody's acceptance speech was the most moving of the batch. I even squeezed out a couple tears during it, which surprised me. So I guess there was a surprise.

And I was happy the best song nominated actually won. I want to see that movie now. Anyone seen Once, or even heard of it?
