The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Post by Usivius »

Terry Gilliam just can't catch a break. His new film, currently shooting with Heathe Ledger (The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus), by all accounts, looked like it was going to be a smash!
Now, in the midst of this tragedy, does Mr. Gilliam have another on his hands to match that of Don Qixote ...
if the stars are with him, perhaps he can lure Johnny Depp ....

Somehow I see this as a worse break for Heath than for Terry.

My comment was in poor taste? I think the original post is in extreme poor taste, which is the impetus behind my comment.

Well, all I can say is that I felt uncomfortable taking humor from the comment... I don't think either post was meant to be disrespectful.

Crap. I was hoping that since he was in New York that filming might have been done. Looks like no. I went into the Dreams message board and saw that the state of the production will be discussed today, according to a crew member who dropped by. We'll see. Double crap!

sorry. I didn't mean for this to be cold or poor taste. I had already commented on the tragedy of his death in another post. I guess my train of thought just expanded upon the sad event to the movie he was currently shooting with Gilliam.

Bad taste? Not to my mind.

Heath's family and friends require time to grieve before the reality of moving on is pressed on them, but you weren't talking to them.

This is like co-workers discussing how to fill-in for the poor guy who's out dealing with a death in the family.

Ledger's death is a terrible tragedy, and we all show our concern in different ways, but we don't need to tip-toe through our lives because of it.

Well, this project has been temporarily suspended and the Vancouver crew let go. That's the latest word from Dreams.

further news...
All quoted from a story in The Globe and Mail (Toronto):
Terry's throwing himself into the job of trying to salvage the picture," co-star Christopher Plummer said. Plummer says Gilliam may take advantage of the film's magical-based story to save the picture, -- perhaps by turning Ledger's character into other people, using stills or computer-generated-imaging effects.
The day after Ledger's death, Plummer told The Globe and Mail that he thought the actor, who had been shooting exterior scenes in damp, wintery London, may have had pneumonia.
"Of course, if you take sleeping pills with that, you can stop your heart," he said.
"There was a great sweetness about him and a great joy."

The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus to be completed

LATEST NEWS - 6 February 2008
The producers of The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus have been in touch with Dreams. There has been some misleading information out on the Internet, including at IMDB, suggesting that the film has been shut down. IMDB also removed Dr Parnassus from the list of Heath Ledger's films. It has been a very difficult time on the production, because all involved have been grieving and assessing the future. Since Heath Ledger's death, the producers have kept quiet, but now they have told Dreams that shooting of Dr Parnassus will recommence very soon.

More information on how the production will continue without Heath will be released in the next few days. But the producers have revealed that all of Heath's performance will remain in the film. Dreams will have an update as soon as further news is available.

A website has been launched at www.doctorparnassus.com

Update:
It seems to have been confirmed that Heath Ledger's part will be continued by no less than Colin Farrel, Jude Law and Johnny Depp! As the film has a magical base, the three actors will take on different physical aspects of the same character.

wow.

Wild. Good to see that more than one other person whom I like is going to be in it. Haven't seen enough of Colin Farrel to quite have my mind made up about him.

Honestly, I can't think of a better tribute than to try and preserve his last work.

Hell, no way it will beat the mystique of The Crow though.
