No, I just wanted to make sure the Belkin didn't have some weird software-based override.

The only think I can suggest at this point is to not undo anything about your Belkin setup, but install the Linksys router and see if it doesn't magically heal the issue. If the problem does not go away with the new router, then I am inclined to agree with WF and say it is something to do with the Laptop/Wireless Card... does the laptop wireless card support the wireless protocol that your Belkin router transmits?

It's all 2006 technology. I assume it's all compatible. The USB wireless adapter is even a Belkin (I matched it on purpose because of these issues).

If it were one computer we're talking about, I'd agree with both of your that the computers must be to blame, either with configuring or hardware. But since every computer has the same exact problem connecting, and I don't change anything with the configuration except manually assigning the IP, I don't think this can be the case.

I've even tried connecting the laptop via an Ethernet cable, and that worked fine. So it has to be something with the wireless capability on the router itself, in conjunction specifically with DHCP. Though I've never heard of that before, that's the only thing I can think of.

Wayfriend, no the admin interface program with the router doesn't have any option to distinguish between wired and wireless.

Do you have the ability to turn the wireless part off and on - separate from power-cycling the entire router?

I know. I'm asking: if there was, would it explain everything? Your last response makes me think so even more.

Oh yeah, you're probably right.

Dukkha, no I don't have that ability.

Thanks guys! I'm going to try the new router tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.
