Another Question about the Illearth War

Post by I am not Joan »

 Near the beginning of TIW, Hile Troy comes to visit TC in his rooms. In the discussion that they have, HT comes right out and asks TC something to the effect of "Didn't you come to the Land the first time after being hit by a police car?" That has always bothered me. How the heck does he know this? Did TC tell the Lords the first time he was in the Land? How would they even know what a police car even was? That would have been meaningless to them. Did HT have someone read it to him from a newspaper? Was it in People magazine (famous author hit by cop car)? Was it on the eleven o'clock news??? HOW DOES HT KNOW THIS????

mmm .. 'not Joan' .. that is indeed a mystery! Maybe he did tell the Lords .. and even though they didnt comprehend the meaning they committed it to memory in honour of the origins of the ring bearer .. or maybe even Lena who being obsessed by TC hung on to every word and detail that TC imparted to her .. and she told her daughter Elena .. who then imparted it to HT?? :? .. or not ..

Or it is a hole in SRD's plot line  ..

Or as you say .. the incident was recorded in a local newspaper .. wasnt HT supposedly in some form of intelligence??(even though the Def Dept claimed not to know him) Maybe searching newspapers etc .. are something he had to do in his job of assimilating information??

but yes you are right .. this is an odd inclusion by SRD?

Nah,it's not a hole in the plot. TC tells someone in LFB (Mhoram or Foamfollower I think) that he was hit by a car. They wouldn't know what he meant but would not forget it either.

It would not be out of the realm of possiblility to be a hole in the plot. However, since TC IS a "hero" to the people of the Land - a savior, even - it would stand to reason that they would commit every word he said to memory. After all, this is the white gold wielder. His story is an important element of the history of the Land. :? :D

BTW - who changed my title? Please change it back, Darth. By accepting your gift of WGD's did not sell me to you. (I am seriously not happy about that! Please change it back! Immediately!!!!) :x

Nah, it's no flaw. There are 2 possibilities: 1) Hile was a fan of TC, and had read about the near accident, and put 2 & 2 together after coming to the land himself. Plausible, but not my favorite option, which is 2) Hile was the driver of the police cruiser that almost struck TC. Hile just didn't see TC crossing the road. A few days later, when the police commissioner actually reviewed Troy's driving record and realized Hile didn't have any eyes, he promoted Troy to the FBI, where eyesight would just hinder an agent's ability to do his job anyway. :screwy:

You have to change it back yourself. Revan no longer can do it. But he promised to cover the costs, though I don't think he reimbursed me yet for his raping of my title. :-x

How would one of the Lords remember that TC told them he was knocked over, when it was 35 years before Hile came to the Land?

Well, the Creator witnesed the accident; perhaps He put the knowledge in the Second Ward. :screwy:

If I remember right, and I'll have to look it up, but TC told Foamfollower about being hit by the car. When Foamy asks him in LFB what he dreamt about in the Land, I believe he told him about being hit by the car and all the people stood around him spitting blood and laughing. It was such a horrific tale that I'm sure Foamfollower mentions it to the Lords...hence..the tale gets passed on. Whether or not they know what a "car" was, I'm sure they came to Troy about it when he was summoned into the Land. To get more of an insight on the Unbeliever. And, being that Elena was his daughter, I'm sure she knew everything and anything her mother and the other lords knew about him. :)
And I believe in you
