Actually, I first saw it when it was the backup story in Mage, but it's been reprinted in the above volume, and many times since.
Hunter Rose an extremely cool bad guy! He used his amazing genius and physical abilities to create a criminal empire. He wrote base-selling novels that made him the toast of the town. He was the greatest fencer in the world as a young teenager, and made his trademark electric fork to fight with. He thrilled in his battles with Argent, the wolf who was his nemesis.
It started as just him. The daughter of his adopted daughter took up the costume and fork. Some other people took it up now and then. And the legend persisted for centuries. Grendel Khans ruled empires. A rebel had the uniform. A cyborg with, basically, a lightsaber.
But Hunter Rose is Grendel. They even had a project with DC, where he went up aginst the Batman.
That was awesome! The third issue of an 8-part story just came out: Behold the Devil. It's so nice to see him again!
Killing and scheming and all. And I don't know who this babe is, but she came up when I searched for Grendel images. Although nothing's showing, she's naked, so I won't img it here.
