this may have already been mentioned Montressor but i do so enjoy reading the expedition journals. they remind me of Conrad and Heart of Darkness.

i've had this with actors before, on the set,

and that's not what we brag about.

My favourite writer, and my favourite story of all time.

The atmosphere is a kind of a deliberate parody. Though there are healthy doses of influence from the journals of conquistadores in there also. There shall be more forthcoming before Turn 2.
Of course, whether Mercuse di Montressor will become a Kurtz like madman remains to be seen . . .
I'll leave it, as I don't really have the time, and adding to it will probably just make it look too much of a chore to read. I'm satisfied with it as is.Menolly wrote:Montressor, just in case you have a little free time in the next 28 and a half hours, the deadline is usually 10:00 PM GMT (I think?) of the day stated. You can probably edit or add a second entry before then, if you wish.

For everyone to know, mana in the real language is everything that you are. It is the wholeness that makes you, you. It is also used to represent courage, honor and battle prowess (I think.) Anyway, I've bastardized it for my own purposes, and split it a couple of ways, but at base mana still means what it means.
I apologize for any offense I cause at my horrible translation and made up words.

Not quite battle prowess, but the rest is close enough.Tawhiri-matea wrote:For everyone to know, mana in the real language is everything that you are. It is the wholeness that makes you, you. Also, we can no longer give out non-DRP blessings but can we still submit non-DRP actions for ourselves? Or does everything we do have to be powered by DRP?
You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.
In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.
He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

As long as these actions are kept at a very reasonable number, you can... but keep in mind that they have no power of their own. That is, you can't say "I cast a spell that protects my city from attacks": these non-DRP actions are limited, for all practical purposes, to "moving your pawns" across the board (telling your Prophet to go somewhere, ordering armies to go somewhere else, and so on). Essentially, things you could do channeling the orders through your Prophet.variol son wrote:Not quite battle prowess, but the rest is close enough.Tawhiri-matea wrote:For everyone to know, mana in the real language is everything that you are. Non-DRP actions were always an iffy prospect anyway. Whenever you did something like creating or empowering things, you knew it'd be better off with DRP and had to weigh if it was worth it. I can see the benefit for Xar of eliminating these minimally-effective actions to streamline the system: It's spend your points, or just tell people what to do and hope.
Although I do have one question: will this also eliminate non-DRP actions where a god contacts an individual not their own follower to try and influence them?

Yes, DRP was aways more effective. But considering I was half the strength of most dieties last Age, I got quite a bit done just calling upon domains. I know one deity in particular who was always surprised at what I did manage to accomplish.Murrin wrote:Non-DRP actions were always an iffy prospect anyway. Contacting individuals to try and influence them can still be done - as long as influencing them is done "the good old way", without trying to compel their loyalty through domain displays or exertions. However, try to keep these contacts down to a reasonable number - I wouldn't want to find out that all the non-DRP blessings have been replaced by just as many contactsMurrin wrote:Non-DRP actions were always an iffy prospect anyway. Why, thank you very muchLucimay wrote:wow! montressor. son of conrad.your newest entry!!

Loved your contest entry too.
A phrase in there stirred something in my memory straight away. I know what it is, but I won't claim credit (I'll just PM you), because I couldn't for the life of me remember the exact name of the source, and I undid myself in my impatience and did some unorthodox research for said name. Shall explain in PM.

That's how I've always done it. Non-DRP actions, which I always have, are more "internal" actions...go here, take that there, that sort of thing. Orders, not exertions of divine power.Xar wrote:these non-DRP actions are limited, for all practical purposes, to "moving your pawns" across the board (telling your Prophet to go somewhere, ordering armies to go somewhere else, and so on).
