The One Rock
I was so stunned to find an actual reference to a One Rock that I feel I must create a new topic about this. While the reference was made by Tohrm in TIW, I think it has implications for the Last Chronicles, so I'm posting this here.
If the One Tree is on an island, and is growing out of the Worm's body (or whatever), could we assume that the Isle of the One Tree is the One Rock? Probably not the case, but it's not unthinkable. If it were the case, then we might see the Dancers of the Sea come into the story this way.
I'm too hungover right now to be thinking clearly, but I wanted to get this topic started to see what others think about this matter.
What is the implication of a One Rock in the Last Chronicles?

That Anele will have something to do with it...and the queen of inaction will find a way to turn it from good to evil.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

Very interesting thread, something I've always wondered about. SRD doesn't usually leave any stone unturned (no pun intended) so I always just figured the One Rock would come into play in the Last Chronicles.
I've got something from SRD himself that might shed a tiny bit of light on the One Rock. I posted a question in the GI a few months ago and he answered a few weeks later. He didn't post it on his website and I've been wanting to share his answers to my rather mundane questions somewhere on the Watch but didn't know exactly where. This thread seemed a good place to finally do that.

Hello Steve,
Firstly, thank you so much for your amazing TC novels. They’ve been a huge part of my consciousness for over 20 years when I first read them at 15. I’ve re-read them too many times to count. When I found out in ’04 that you were indeed writing the Last Chronicles, it was a literal dream come true for me. Just seeing Linden Avery again was a thrill. FR was a superb read and worth the three year wait; I'm sure waiting another three years for AATE will definitely be worth it too.
So many wonderful, thought-provoking questions have been asked here on the GI, and your responses are always insightful and articulate. I couldn’t think of any “deep” questions to ask you that others haven’t already asked. So, I have two rather mundane questions.
The One Tree has always held a certain fascination for me. You once hinted in the GI that the One Tree wasn’t always on the Isle. I have had my own ideas where it might have been before that: in Andelain perhaps? Maybe at the hollow where Banas Nimoram takes place? (I can totally picture the Wraiths dancing around it at the Celebration.) And since it was most likely above ground at first, did the Tree bear leaves? Was the Tree originally recognized as a Gilden? Could you possibly shed some light on this query or is this a RAFO answer?
Question 2 (yeah, I realize I already asked several questions about the Tree...): Will we be seeing the Tree’s counterpart, the One Rock in the next two books?
Told you they were mundane questions!
Thanks for your time and good luck with writing AATE!

Thank you! I've been very fortunate in my readers.
Your speculations about the One Tree are interesting, but I'm not going to respond to them. Not (in this case) for fear of spoilers, but rather because I believe that magical/mystical/archetypal things are often better left unexplained. Tracking the "back-story" of the One Tree would take me perilously close to the dreaded terrain of Explaining Magic.
If it's possible to define such a thing as the One Rock, the Earth itself is probably the answer.

Hope this was relevant. Maybe Anele has been communicating with the One Rock all this time?

"Ah, my daughter, do not fear. You will not fail, however he may assail you. There is also love in the world. Be true."
Wow, preesh the sharing of your QandA with SRD, Starkin.
I came across the reference to the One Rock, failed to mark the page, and later thought (was sure!) that it was in connection to the krill's gem. I still don't know the origin of that stone--have asked SRD on the GI and am awaiting an answer.
I agree that Anele has some sort of connection to this One Rock. I'm sure that's what he meant at the end of FR when he was talking about seeking the deepest stone, or whatever the exact wording is. I also think that the krill's gem must stem from this Rock like the orcrest. I mean, how could it not? The orcrest has many powers, but the krill can handle any amount of power dumped into it. Anele is clearly insufficient to the Staff of Law; I bet, though, that he's more than sufficient to the krill because of the crux of it's power: stone.
I'm looking to Anele taking up the krill at the beginning of AATE, finding a means to express his true power/lore.

Tohrm said that the One Rock was the heart of the Earth, not the Earth itself. However, if we are to go by the creation myth about the Worm eating up all the stars, lying down for a nice snooze and the Earth forming around him, then there might be merit to this idea.
Again (for me, at least), it comes back to Anele. Before the Worm was supposedly roused by Linden's actions in Andelain, Anele wanted to seek the deepest rock. That's rather cryptic (like everything about that guy), but he is aware of something or some need, and only rock will suffice to answer it (for Anele--and maybe for the Earth?)

No doubt. We've been told "he is the hope of the Land" too many times for it not to be important. Unless it's just something that Sunder and Hollian told him, that was relevant 3000 years ago, and now he raves about it in the same way the Elohim believe they're the answer to everything.
And I sort of sensed what SRD's answer about the One Rock would be... unlike a tree, which is a "separate" being, the entire Earth is one large body of rock (of course, there's the mantle, core, and different types of rocks, but that's not the point...
) Still, there may be a specific location where the Earthpower is focused in the rock in a way that's analogous to the One Tree.

I have to think that the latter is the more likely scenario that we will discover (if anything at all) about the One Rock.unlike a tree, which is a "separate" being, the entire Earth is one large body of rock (of course, there's the mantle, core, and different types of rocks, but that's not the point... ) Still, there may be a specific location where the Earthpower is focused in the rock in a way that's analogous to the One Tree.

**Finally finished Fatal Revenant**
The Worm has been roused! I guess I used to think that once the Worm was fully roused, it was not long before the end of all things . . . now I wonder . . . the Worm rousing might be a lengthly process.
So . . . can the Worm be returned to it's "slumber". If The One Tree on the surface of the earth can rouse the Worm, maybe The One Rock deep in the earth is the key to causing it to slumber - this would also assume that the Worm sleeps within the Earth.
And here we are . . .
Anele mentions the deepest rock and he has been said to be the land's only hope many times . . .
From Andelain (where everyone currently is), the Soulsease flows to Mount Thunder . . . presumably the caverns of the Lost Deep are there . . . where Anele can speak to deepest rock which remembers the Worm and how to calm it . . .
Just some thoughts . . ..
