I grew up running around barefoot, so was doing the same the first night I spent in Israel on the Moshav outside Tel Aviv when I was 13. Until we had the lecture about native wild life. My shoes stayed where they belonged the rest of the trip.

I grew up the same! I was always barefoot. Even now I tend to opt for barefoot when I can but much harder in London. I much prefer my African days even though I did get stung/bitten/scratched etc every so often!

(Disclaimer: I recognize that I have an irrational fear of the arachnid kingdom. This post does not in any way intend offense to any spiders, whom I respect and acknowledge as one of Nature's most awesome creatures, and who may at this very moment be comfortably residing in my closet and other dark places.)

I have a friend who would be fumigating that closet if she thought there were any living spiders in it! Poor things!

An emperor scorpion! By that name, does that mean it's the largest of its species?

Pandinus imperator is indeed one of the largest (if not the largest) scorpion species.

A good rule of thumb is: that heavier the claws, the weaker the sting. Hence the Pandinus imperator is not very poisonous.

Doar: I think the mushroom might be an Amanita ceacarea. It's one of the fly agarics that we, unfortunately, don't have around these parts.

I have found that anytime people I know need a phone upgrade its hard to get a phone WITHOUT a camera/mps/gps/radio/internet connection/everything including the kitchen sink. The days of the plain old phone seem long gone, which is a real shame!

I don't take many pictures on my phone, but I do have a few old ones sitting on it I might upload. Unfortunately, most of them were taken with the camera set to its smallest image size.
Here's one I put on my comp a while back, showing the chruch and graveyard across the road from the house I was living in last year:

A shame it's such a small one, though.


Edit: Ah, here we go, some decent ones.

Rainbow over Central Hall, University of York (taken 2 years ago):

You can just about make out the ducks and geese in the foreground.

Streetlit foot/cycle path on edge of campus, taken at about 3am (more than 1.5 years ago):

Saw it lit up in contrast to the pitch black around and thought it would make a good image, but it came out quite yellow and fuzzy because of the lighting and the way the phone auto-adjusts for brightness.

That one could have come out a lot better than it did.

Murrin - I really like the double rainbow and the church! Pity the church wasn't bigger as you say.

Here is one I snapped yesterday while out visiting for work. There were 2 whole walls and that didn't even cover the lot. The person they belong to sold over 30 million albums worldwide and these are kept at his parents flat:

In that case...your mission for tomorrow is 3 phone pictures! Any random ones are fine. I tend to just make sure there is enough light and try keep as still as possible so the quality is not as horrible.
