what makes a good moderator?

what are the qualities and character traits a person would have that would make them a good moderator for a forum such as this one? :?

For starters, he or she would have to be certifiably insane.

Patience.

A lack of parti pris, as they say. Also, a sense of humour never, ever goes astray.

Your avatar has to have a nice butt.

Using lots and lots and lots of smiley emoticons.

Redirection without criticism when neccesary.

Queeaqueg.

Objectivity.

A charming smile, and the ability to dispense wisdom such as: "It's OK to stir the pot, as long as you also eat the soup."

The ability to perform unspeakable acts in order to purchase your own "Mod Squad" banner.

+ The ability to set an example of behavior.

+ The ability to identify when threads turn into Yet Another Thread About Mooching WGD/Tokens/HP.

Available Hit Points.

To know when something is inappropriate or not.

Seeing as you have to use tokens to acquire said tag, and that to collect tokens you have to post in Mallorys, you speak Truth, oh leonine one.

I still desire a Dalek, but the Mod Squad tag would be nice as well.

However, since I don't frequent Mallorys, I guess those are two tags I'll pine for for awhile...

You only need 5 more tokens for a Dalek; you should be able to get those without too much hassle.
