What fantasy/science fiction book are you reading RIGHT NOW?

A place for anything *not* Donaldson.

Anytime, EL. :) If you pick it up, let me know what you think when you're done, would ya?

Oh, I read it a long, long time ago.

I was just wondering what you thought of it.

At the time? I hated it. That book was one of the big reasons I didn't read the Dune series until a few years ago. Looking back on it, I would probably enjoy it if read again today.

I"ve got two chapters to go on Fatal Revenant. I haven't had much opportunity to read these last few years (since the having kids and working the overnight shift).

Thankfully Fatal Revenant is here and though I am only able to read it at a snail's pace, it has inspired me to "somehow" find time to read once again.

I am going to pick up Dan Simmon's Ilium from where it sits unread on my bookshelf as soon as I am done.

(Simmon's and Donaldson are my two favorite authors, so that should be inspiration enough).

I finally finished "Dune" on a plane flight to New Zealand a couple of weeks ago. A lot of cool ideas in Dune, but I found it a real slog to read through all the political intrigue. I do wish more Australians would read it though, because we're running out of water and could use a wake-up call showing us just how frugal we may need to be with it in future.

Gotta finish the Dark Tower series...Low Men then DT6 is next according to Avatar's list. :)

Ah...

If you hadn't said, I was just going to ask if you had finished the series, duke.

Enjoy!!

An absolutely fascinating series by Scott Westerfield that begins with Uglies.

Really sharp stuff.

I just finished reading 7th Son by Orson Scott Carde, and am in the Middle of The Gunslinger by Stephen King. I'm pretty much set for reading material for a while I think. (LOVED 7th son, I'm still a little Tepid on The Dark Tower. I have enjoyed pieces, and I caught a part of the comic book recently... thought it was pretty cool)

I'm also tied up in the 1st book of the Baroque Cycle by Neil Stephenson. (Yes, I typically read a couple of books at once.)

Just finished Joe Abercrombie's latest!

Last Argument of Kings is an excellent conclusion to what turned out to be a very entertaining series.

Check the blog for the full review. :)

'Declare' by Tim Powers.

Struggling so far. Anubis Gates by Powers is one of my fave all-time books, everything else I've read by him is rubbish with some cool ideas. I'm hoping Declare will turn out to to be another Anubis Gates. But I doubt it....

Sailing to Satantium by Kay.

Just started; I like it so far...except for one line, where someone said "
Up the Blue's; in their butts"
BUTTS?

He could have said asses or something.

I've read Hyperion and Endymion as well as Song of Kali by Simmons within the past year. I had never read Simmons before and I've enjoyed him immensely. I just picked up his "The Terror" and I'm loving it as well. If you haven't read this one, I'd highly recommend it.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. John Stuart Mill
