Maybe I'm clutching at straws, but that paragraph stands out a hell of a lot more now than it did before I read FR the first time and the Lost Deep became a discussion point. If the Viles really did have a whole civilization at Lost Deep (I don't have time to look for the description in FR at the moment), doesn't that sound a lot like the kind of castle the Viles/Demondim would have been associated with?The whole edifice was at once enormously elaborate, thick with details like balconies and bartizans, and perfectly symmetrical, balanced in all its parts. Its strangeness in her entryway, a pedestrian place intended for the most ordinary use, gave it an eldritch quality, almost an evanescence, as though some faery castle had been half translated from its own magical realm, and could be discerned by its outlines in slim rods and wheels like a glimpse into another dimension of being.

Rereading ROTE instead of studying pharm this morning and I noticed the following description on page 34:

Linden only thinks about the 2 she recognizes, and this one has essentially been forgotten, but maybe he's trying to tell her more. Also of interest is that she told him to take the two down, but to leave the castle.

Cool idea, Seppi2112. This is a description of the castle Jeremiah built in the entryway, right? (Sorry, don't have my books with me.) Did he take that one down voluntarily, or was it still standing?
And if the castle is representative of something, (like Lost Deep) what about the contsruct he built with the race tracks in his room? (Or am I misremembering and these are the same thing?)

No, you're right on both counts and they're both still standing. The castle in the entryway feels like Lost Deep, but the race tracks in his room (with all their loops and curves and the Mobius loop aspect) seem like a reference to the Arch of Time maybe? I dunno, but that's what I suspect.

Now that's the sort of ideas I come to this forum for!!! Brilliant! It makes me think of other discussions where people ask why didn't the Creator appear to Linden before she was sent to the Land this time.. And other people have (in completely unrelated areas) suggested Jeremiah is (or will be) some sort of New Creator or something... So if you put it all together you may come up with some sort of answer...

When we dissected this chapter, this paragraph caught my attention. The phrases that Donaldson chose seem to say pretty directly that Jeremiah has information about the Land.
As for what his structures represent, though, I don't think we have enough information to speculate. Or maybe they don't represent anything other than a demonstration of Jeremiah's building talent.
